Magic Performances - Page 2 Empty Magic Performances

Post by oxring Tue 01 Nov 2011, 7:55 pm

First topic message reminder :

Quite simply - a thread to post youtubes/dailymotions/googlevideo highlights of your favourite fights/performances from a boxer.

Hopefully - we get a good many and can form a bit of an archive - of classic material. Post the link and your reasons for why you think it should be there.

RJJ-Toney
RJJ isn't everyone's cup of tea (sorry coxy) but this was an incredible performance. Even when the commentators are praising Toney's punches, by and large RJJ is coming back with 2 or 3 hard shots of his own. Incredible handspeed and reflexes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Osxyd7h6N-0

I was originally intending to move this to the vault and post the links to every fight here - but thanks to your interest - we've too many fights!

So if you're bored at work and fancy a youtube to cheer you up, sit back, browse and put a classic on to cheer you up.

Andre Berto - Victor Ortiz

"AWWWW, MAH GOD!!!" - Manny Steward

Hearing that never gets old... Possibly the fight of this year (2011) Ortiz had a point to prove that he wasn't a quitter and he could push through the tough times, there was most certainly some tough times and round 6 is up there with the best ever.

Antonio Margarito - Shane Mosley

"Take that jab, stab him in his heart, when he hits the pedal there ain't gonna be no mo' gas in the car, Shane, run them combinations and knock the grease of this dude, and then swim without getting wet, slide 'till you stick, slide to your angles!" - Brother Nazim Richardson

I mean what can you say about that?
Shane's one last hurrah in a great fight and great performance following controversy with apparently loaded gloves from Margarito.

Manny Pacquiao - Juan Manuel Marquez 1&2

"And Marquez hasn't seen anything like THAT!" - Jim Lampley "WHO HAS!?" - Larry Merchant (1st Fight)

"One more combination by Marquez! Another combination by Pacqiaou!! They trade shots down the stretch!!" - Jim Lampley "Hell 'uva fight... I think I'm calling it another draw..." - Larry Merchant (2nd Fight)

With the third one looming ever closer I thought it would be good to include these two here! Amazing wars!

The relatively recent clash between these two rivals... They don't like each other and Degale came in a massive favourite only for Saint George Groves to walk away the winner, incredibly close fight however!!!

Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Juan Manuel Marquez

"Floyd goes to nightclubs, but he doesn't drink, he stays up late, but often it's to train, there are no flies on his approach to the sport as a competitor!" - Jim Lampley

Yes Floyd was favourite and most felt he would win, but did anyone think he would so simply and calmly systematically break the at the time Pound4Pound Number 2/3 fighter in the world?

Floyd Mayweather Jr - Phillip N'Dou

Vintage, absolute vintage display from Floyd. N'Dou had 31 wins and 29 knockouts coming in to this fight and people wondered if N'Dou landed big on the former Super Feather Weight how would Floyd react? Well, we never found out because in 7 rounds he never punched Floyd!! Floyd stands right in front waits for the punches and reacts accordingly to everything every time, just an absolute nightmare for anyone, perfect performance.

Superb domestic mash up. This was probably around the time I last watched Boxing on a regular basis. 2003/4 I think it was.

5min 26sec of controlled violence. Frazier was a hard SOB but this was just a "magic performance" by Big George.

I think that for those who haven't seen it or don't know about it, I should include the performance that I consider the greatest in championship boxing history. Considering the pressure of the occasion and the stature of his opponent, Salvador Sanchez turned in an effort that bordered on the unbelievable. On the night that he beat Wilfredo Gomez, I do not believe that any featherweight in history would have had an answer for him.

Lennox Lewis - Mike Tyson

In one of Boxings most high profile fights ever Lennox Lewis took on Mike Tyson. Strange to think that so many thought that Tyson would just walk through Lewis if he got himself in shape, but Lewis had possibly a career defining win even though it was against a very faded Tyson.

Kirkland vs Angulo

Possibly a FOTY contender for 2011. .

Kirkland (30-1, 27 KOs) came back from his knockdown shaken, but survived, then turned the tables on Angulo (20-2, 17 KOs), who had punched himself out and then took some major punishment from Kirkland the rest of the way in this WBC 154-pound eliminator.

Links (in order) to the flight below, 1st round was sensational with both fighters hitting the canvas:

I was pretty impressed by Kirkland in there. I thought he boxed with control and common sense. Ann Wolfe has done her work well with him.

The crowd scream Tito, but Hopkins believes, this must be up there with one of Boxings big shocks. Even though this was Trinidad moving up to Middleweight against a champion that has defended his title countless times he was a huge favourite going into this. However Bernard has other ideas and pulls out one of his greatest ever performances.

I actually rewatched this one recently and have to say I wouldn't put it up there in any kind of "magic" list. Trinidad got found out to be a limited come forward banger against a man in Hopkins who was notably much much bigger. I was less impressed with that fact that Hopkins was being pushed back in the fight by the smaller man yet Trinidad sjust eemed to eat the right counter all night long and just got worn down by the far stronger man in the end. Not a great great fight despite the plaudits Hopkins gets for that win. Given that ODLH (much smaller man) should have been awarded the win against Trinidad in an earlier fight I think this Hopkins win gets badly overrated! OK

No doubt it was a good preformance it's just the massive size difference between BHop and Trinidad that shocked me when I saw it again. Even if you look at the pre-fight posters you got BHop looking like some musular wrecking machine and Trinidad looks like a schoolboy.

Sonny Liston - Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) 1&2

The greatest Heavyweight Champion of all time wins his title and in the rematch he takes Liston out early, however make of it what you will, is it a fix? Unsure...

Marcos Rene Maidana - Victor Ortiz

"We just saw a moment in a fighters career that could define his career, he was dropped cut and faced with a fighter that refused to lose and Ortiz in a moment of weakness, gave up" - Max Kellerman

Fantastic fight, knockdowns galore just a real toe to toe battle between two big punchers.
Mark Ortiz as a quitter fair enough, but you gotta say the guy is rarely in a dull fight.

Erik Morales - Marcos Rene Maidana

An incredible fight between a huge puncher and a wily old fox that albeit way past his best was able to adapt a gameplan to give the younger man a teek tough fight.

Amir Khan - Breidis Prescott

"Just how dangerous is Prescott?" - Ian Darke

You know you laughed when you saw it, you know you were stunned to your core when you saw it, you know you couldn't believe your eyes when you saw it. Well see it again!

Micky Ward - Arturo Gatti 1, 2 & 3

"GO TO THE BODY!!!" - Manny Steward

Epic, epic, epic, epic, epic - what more can you ask for, blood guts and more blood with guts, truly incredible. Once Ward lands the body shot the fight becomes an absolute barnstormer!
