Edwin Valero...how good could he have been??
Firstly let me start by saying that this bloke was clearly troubled, and commited horrendous crimes against his innocent family, and from what I gather was a horrible person.
However, putting that to one side...
How good could he have been? How would he have fared against the likes of katsidis? Was he good enough to trouble Marquez.
His ko record speaks for itself.
His story is one that ultimately ended in tragedy, he could have been a massive name imo.
Valero versus either katsisis or JMM for different reasons would have been epic fights.
His record may not have been the greatest, but he still won every fight by ko, and was a 2 weight world champ, so who knows how good he could have been.

He would beat the Katsidis level of fighter. Good enough to be a proper champion in at least one division.

Re: Edwin Valero...how good could he have been??
I think he had the aggression, power and towards the end we seen that he did in fact have a fair bit of skill. He would have been avoided like the plague in my opinion with the excuses being that because he couldn't get a licence in America, nobody would travel to fight him.
He dealt with DeMarco excellently and DeMarco recently showed us that he isn't some journey man who comes to get blown away.
Morales etc sparred with him and didn't come back after one session so it shows how ruthless he was.
Pity he went the way he did because I feel if the brain injury (serious or over exaggerated) etc did not exist, he would defo have been a very deadly force in the sport.

I think his legend will grow with time and in a morbid way it is probably better for his "legacy" that he left us without unanswered questions...
Personally i rate him highly i think between 135-140 he would have have beaten people like Katsidis, Rios, Alexander, Khan, Bradley.
People labelled him a crude slugger, whilst he did headhunt a fair bit he also had some good boxing skills, the demarco and Mosquera fights showed this. I think that he just truly believed he was powerful enough to KO anyone in front of him.
I think Marquez would of had his number - wouldnt be bullied and to savvy to get caught flush with one of those bombs, i think he would win a close decision.
Would have loved to see him fight maidana (they could have fought in a phone box!!) a real 50/50 fight as both of them have been put down but i think Maidana would have found himself outgunned and stopped late on in a classic!
Alas, we will never know as is the cruel irony of Valero

I think seeing how good DeMarco was recently shows the talent Valero had, he started to show his boxing before he flipped. I feel he would still have been undefeated now, followed him from early on and was shocked by what happened.

I think he'd have done well, beating all of the gate keepers and fringe contenders but ultimately coming undone against the world class counter punchers, or the likes of Pacquiao.
A talent, for sure, and we missed an exciting journey, but that is secondary to the atrocities he committed.

If he moved up i could see him coming on top in the light-welterweight division, Khan simply wouldnt have the endurance to last with Valero and Bradley is tailor made for Valero in my opinion. Can see him getting come unstuck by the pure boxers though, a move up to 147 would see him beaten by the Mayweathers, Brooks, Moseleys. Still had the posibility of being an ATG lightweight/light-welterweight.
