Pointless

Anyone else watch this program. Alexander Armstrong presents with his pointless friend Richard

I think its great, we had Family fortunes in the 90's and for me we have Pointless for this decade. I think its great, really tests your general knowledge and the relationship between Armstrong and Richard is great, some real funny moments. My favourite program on tv atm, anyone else watch it?

I watch it occasionally Martyr when I have control of the TV! It is a really good show, good banter between the presenters and the whole concept is brilliant!

It's superb! I absolutely love it. Good concept, and you learn some really interesting things from it!

Its a decent gameshow, surprised to read it started in 2009 I thought it was last year!

Was it always on BBC?

I really like it, tis a bit addictive too

It's one of those things I'd flick on the odd time and then get drawn into it. Once you start you can't stop!

Thought I'd dig this old thread out to let folk know I have applied to go on Pointless. Not sure if I will get on but will keep you posted. Really hope if I get on obscure black fighters from pre 1930 is a category in the final.

No idea mate, should be soon as the form asks what dates you can go for an audition in November and December so hopefully it will be soon. Need to start reading up on politics and the periodic table and other stuff I know nothing about. Fortunately the guy I am going on with knows all about that stuff but does not know the pop culture stuff I am quite good at so hopefully we have a good mix of knowledge.

Guess you's will be screwed if a question about dating or women comes up.

Great quiz show but does anyone else think the prize money is a bit blah compared to other quiz shows?

Luck of the draw I guess, have seen it get up to £20k which is not too shabby, but love the show and so at the risk of sounding like a tool it is not really about the money.

It's not about the money, it's about the Pointless trophy.

Good luck. It would embarrassing to fail the audition though.

In all fairness Olly if that question was to come up would be confident there would be plenty of 100 pointers out there so I would be sitting pretty just by getting it right.

Jeff - my admiration and manlove for you grows even further. It's an absolutely delightful programme. Clever format with wonderful banter between Zander and his Pointless Friend.

Have thought about applying but my fundamental weaknesses concerning national flags and American states would probably be humiliatingly exposed! I would be ok if I could rely on the categories coming up including Carry On films and West Indian cricket.

Pointless tip: Peter Gilmore of Onedin Line fame appeared regularly - in the Carry On films that is, not the West Indies team! Unbelieveable that Rohan Kanhai was a pointless answer the other month for former Windies' captains!

Cheers Guildford. Should I get on I do have a desparate few months of reading up on presidents, prime ministers and the periodic table. Fortunately the guy I am going on with is really good at that sort of thing. He can do all the high brow stuff and I will get us through the rounds on Bruce Willis films and Girls Aloud songs!

Agree Pointless is a good format - watched it quite a bit recently. Always surprised by what public knows and doesn't know.

I love Pointless, mainly so I can call everyone morons when catagories I'm strong at come around and then sit quietly when one's I'm not so hot at come up.

Its funny when you watch Pointless it has the feel of a genuinely tough to play along with game show....turn forward to channels for.....Tipping Point haha. Such difference

And I don't like the rolling over jackpot (just me, never like that in a gameshow).

I applied last year with my brother and heard nothing. Might have to apply again. Brilliant show. I did great tonight until the final round. Although it was a stinker of a set of subjects. Probably would have had to select thespians and hope my brother could get us through. He has an english degree and isnt too shoddy with that sort of thing

I like 60s music and I was struggling, only got anyone who had a heart and you're my world, but those were pretty big hits.

i got pointless with the tennis player which was surprisingly tsonga, didnt get pointless for the capital cities beginning with A, think my best score was abu dhabi. i did of course know all the darts players

Two pointless answers out of three in the end game today. :-) always go for sport. Too many people out of the 100 generally know nothing on the subject.

There were 2 women in the final on one show and they selected "Modern Art" as they firmly believed they would get something on music. When they realised it was Turner Prize winners, one turned to the other and said "Oh, i thought it said Artists!!".

Yes because even if it said Modern Artists, it would have meant music  

Needless to say they embarassed themselves.

Did not watch it last night as they are repeats so I have seen them before, think I got it last time. My default answer is Steve Mcqueen. I only know him because he is now a film director so I always say him for modern art.

Have any of you had three right answers in a final? I have done it once and nearly did it another time but disregarded an answer that turned out to be pointless.

Yep - football world cup winning captains. Fritz Walter, Daniel Passarella, and Fabio Cannavarro were all pointless.

James Bond for me Superfly, directors of the films and people who did the theme for Roger Moore films, Marc Foster, Martin Campbell and Rita Coolidge (Octopussy in case anyone wondered) saw me home.
