A B&I Lions anthem Empty A B&I Lions anthem

Post by Portnoy Mon 30 Jul 2012, 11:18 am

0I always wanted Hey Jude as the official England one (well either that or Jerusalem) - but given that the three main musicians each have/had some sort of Irish heritage, I might be suitable.

Just imagine in the final test and going for the 3-0 whitewash, and walzing Matilda back over her bilabong once again and the crowd singing "Laa laa la-la-la-laa, la-la-la-laa: Lions!"

Just so long as McCartney is nowhere near to be seen or heard laying claim to Lennon's epic...

I thought McCartney wrote it no?

I don't like the song, played it about 85,000 times on my blue ablum casette when i was younger and now I'm sick of it.

I suggest Irelands call, but replace Ireland with "Lion" and province with "country". Simple enough.

If there's one Beatles song I could happily never hear again it would be Hey Jude.

Jude is Julian Lennon Mick. John wrote it shortly after his birth.

I knew who it was about, but I'm pretty sure that it was written by Paul McCartney, the story i heard (open to correction) was that it was written by Paul while he was on his way to visit Julian and Cynthia Lennon just after John had left the family for Yoko Ono.

Nah, you're alright. Just have a minute of silence for the players to sing their on national anthem in their head and then get on with it.

The Anthem should be AC/DC's Highway to Hell.

It's right on so many levels.

I'm sure you can roll out Paul McCartney on his life support system to do the same two crowd pleasers he can remember to mime to...

Seems to work for every other ceremonial occassions.

If only he did mime, his singing voice is shot and he never seems to rock out as many classic Beetles numbers as he could either. I'm just glad they played Pink Floyd from cd rather than got Roger Waters on stage as you could bet he would have tried to fit in a left wing speech somewhere. Well that or Gilmour would have taken the opportunity to 'accidentally' push him off stage.

Anyone who doesn't yearn for and cherish the classic "Power of 4" obviously knows nothing about rugby.

Or music.

And wouldn't know a playmaker with soft hands and a cultured left foot if one sat on their face.

Just seven years on, its already soared past 17,000 views on youtube. Inspirational.

Well a beatles track is perfect to represent the whole of GB,NI and Eire.

So my pick is "all together now"

The "alternative" version of Waltzing Matilda would work for the next tour......would be lovely with a nice string orchestra or brass band.
