RIP Nevin Spence

RIP Nevin Spence who died tonight along with his father and brother in a tragic accident on the family farm in County Down. I can't believe it Nevin was not only a great player but one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet even with his success he had time for everyone. My thoughts are with his family to lose 3 of the family at once is terrible, I wish his sister who is in hospital well too and hope she makes a full recovery. You will never be forgotten

Where can one even begin with something like this. A fine young man, a great talent and bright future and its gone. Its just horribly sad. His mother has lost a husband and two sons as well, and a daughter who is lucky to survive. I can't even begin to imagine how she must be feeling.

Absolutely tragic. I don't know what to say.

A mind numbing tragedy for the family, to lose 3 people like this is truly horrific, and a huge loss to Irish, and especially Ulster rugby.

I saw Nevin at Ravenhill last night at, typically taking time to talk to some fans as he came through the gate even though the game had already kicked off. By all accounts he was an absolute gentleman, and was a hugely committed player with a huge future in the game. Such sad news.

An extremely talented rugby player, and seems like a standup guy. The accident is a treuly terrible thing to happen. A tragic accident for any family to endure, I wish their sister a full recovery and my thoughts are with the Spence family and their friends. Their mother must be feeling terrible and I wish her and the family the best.


R.I.P. Nevin a great rugby player and great individual. Stand up for the Ulstermen. Ulster Rugby will acknowledge him, in a great way that will show how great an organsiation they are.

Totally devastated by this news. I just cannot imagine what that poor woman is going through.

Totally shocked and saddened by the news... Nevin was a great talent and looked certain to have a very successful career. Thoughts are with the family who were already facing tough times with his ill sister. Tragic..

No words can really describe this. As has been said he was one the nicest people you could hope to meet, though I only had the pleasure of his company on a few occasions, my cousins knew the family fairly well. The farming community in Northern Ireland, and the whole island really, would be extremely close and it has been a rough year or so. Hopefully the family get all the help they are going to need, and I know the rugby community will rally around and support them.

I saw this on the BBC news earlier and felt devastated for the Mother who had lost two sons and a husband and was watching her daughter fighting for her life.

Knowing now that one of those tragically killed was a rugby player I had often watched playing in an Ulster jersey somehow makes it personal.

God be with Mrs Spence and her daughter at this time.

Heartbroken by this news. A talented but humble, decent, friendly, hard-working young man. Praying for his family and friends.

What a horrible thing to have happened - absolutely terrible.

Spence was one of those players who impressed me every time I watched him play, and you can't say that about many players. Also, from what I've seen from Ulster fans on here and twitter, he was an absolutely lovely guy with plenty of time for the fans and a good work ethic.

Just got home and read this, awful news - poor family, thoughts are with the mother at this time.

I was seeing a lot of friends liking the group RIP Nevin Spence on Facebook and had no idea what it was about, although I was sure I had heard of Spence before. Then I get home and log on to the BBC and realise who he is as I see the shocking headline. Awful news. For his family and Ulster Rugby. Deepest sympathies to all.

Horrible news to hear.

I was out at the pub about an hour ago when a friend on his phone showed the article to me. It's one of those odd things in sport, that when you hear news such as this about player you've watched play and respected it's always the same feeling and in some way a personal one.

Extremely sad and as I indicated to above a horribly similar feeling to when hearing the news about Tom Maynard not so long ago.

To be fair I don't bring religion into this forum much but, I'd like to think that everyone is saying a prayer for the mother/wife of the mentioned and that she does feel the love from all those around her and somehow does work her way through this with the support of others.

How very sad. RIP.

I would like to join the list of people offering their condolences, firstly to the mother and my hopes that her daughter can pull through. As a parent I have an inkling just how devasted she must be. No parent should have to bury a child, let alone two.

I also want to offer my condolences to Ulster fans, as the people I "know" because this will feel like losing a friend to them.

That is horrific. In my uneducated viewpoint I did wonder how 4 people could fall in at the same time. Awful awful accident

Dear god - I had to re-read this three times before it properly registered.

You cannot even begin to place yourself in the mother's shoes - literally indescribable.
