European club seedings : official vs alternatives

Without wanting to create yet another sectarian debate, European seedings are based solely on European competition and take no account of form in domestic leagues.

As a long-term recipient of weekly mails (some of which I open) from http://www.eurorugby.com , side rankings always appear to me to be reasonably rational.

But the calculations are simple taking some 30 previous games into account.

To my mind, rolling up both league and cup form with the weightings applied makes a lot better sense than anything the ERC magic mushroom fed calculation.

If, as the competitions are inevitably are going to be reformed, so should the seedings calculation.

To provide an example (as the site is down/thinking/waiting/got the bailiffs in) , I paste up my most version.

I had a quick look (outside my normal one-eyed local interest).
For instance Edinburgh is not in the current top twenty which seems right.
But fear not. When the HEC pool draws, they would have been!
