WBC make Khan number 2.

The WBC have given former Light-Welterweight champion Amir Khan the number 2 ranking at Welterweight. Khan who has never fought at the weight has been added this week after speculation that he maybe moving up in weight.

It was rumoured Khan would take on Hatton conqueror Vyacheslav Senchenko at a catchweight between 140lbs and 147lbs but the Ukraine fighter reportedly declined.

This decision by the WBC is just one of many that has left fans disillusioned with them.

I think it makes him the mandatory for Guerreros interim title Eddy.

that would be a massive win for khan, but i can't see him taking that fight- or winning it at this point in time

How can you rank any fighter in a division he has yet to fight in, this is ludicrus, Yes i am a huge Khan fan and i do understand that certain fighters can go up the weights being world level fighters at each weight, but surely you need to fight in a weight class first before gaining ranking at that weight?

Khan isn't the mandatory for Robert Guerrero.

Khan is being mentioned to fight Josesito Lopez, for the WBC Silver Welterweight title.

So after they fight, the winner would be mandatory for the WBC interim welterweight, if Guerrero hasn't fought Mayweather by then.

Simple isn't it.

Josesito Lopez would be a decent fight for Khan. I've given up trying to follow the logic of sanctioning bodies. I just want to see good fights. They're few and far between these days.

lopez upset ortiz, and showed he has a chin against alveraz so would be a decent fight.

The guy broke Ortiz jaw in their fight.

If he can break his jaw, then he will probably punch khans chin off his head!

Josesito by stoppage in this fight.

Too good of a chin and has brilliant heart. He took Ortiz best shots who is a bit of a banger, and came back stronger.

Khan simply doesn't have KO power to keep him off all night, and I think Lopez will know this.

I'd have Khan as a risky favourite in that fight. It's a good matchup.

Good fight and one Khan should win and has to to prove he can get to the big time

Lopez is a natural lightwelter but with his height and chin he is equally effective at 147. Good stamina, very hard chin, strong willed, good power but does not have huge one punch KO that will prevent Khan's team accepting a figh with him

He beat Ortiz but was down on the scorecards and despite the moment he broke his jaw, he never really hurt Ortiz who (although huge at the weight) himself is suspect in the chin department

Took a right hiding from Canelo but Canelo is a heavy handed lightmiddleweight while Khan is a average punching lightwelter so it will be a hard test for Khan

Does beating Lopez show he can hit the bigtime at Welter though??

His losses against Jessie Vargas, Wes Ferguson and Santana show he isnt genuine world class surely?

It was only the other day we were slating Khan and stating he would never be that great due to his poor defeats.

If he can't beat Lopez, as you said a solid gatekeeper, then he most likely won't make world level

Your being overly harsh on his losses also. The majority of people thought that he deserved the nod agaisnt Looez who himself was a hot prospect and was also unlucky against both ferguson (when he was only 21/22) and Santana (when he was 23/24) as Santana was suppose to beat him easily

In my eyes, they dont really mean anything, and like you said, Lopez was lucky not to get the wins.

You only have to look as far as Abril vs Rios for example. Rios was outclassed and outboxed but won handily.

Lopez IS a good gatekeeper, and it will indeed show us how far Khan can go, i just dont think beating him proves how great he can be. It just gives us a yardstick to play with such as:

Can he take a shot at Welter?

Does he have his speed?

Power?

How great he can be?

Jesus Christ man its just a fight so he can get into a position to challenge for the WBC title

It's a good solid fight and one khan can lose and a future win/fight over Guerrero will be a really good fight and a real good win. Lopez so suppose to be a yardstick and is a far better fight than the others names thrown about like Senchenko and Soto

Yeah, agree WHU, not every fight will be one for the greatness history books, some are just to position yourself like you say, Mayweather did the exact same thing when he fought Corley after moving up to the LWW limit.
