Pet peeve - Challengers built up by who they've lost to!!

Ricky Burns.........building up his latest "dangerous" challenger by saying that he gave Bradley and Alvarez good fights!!!

Can't wait!!

This is happening more and more....Gift title shots for crud.......Just because they've put on a show whilst getting trashed against another champion!!

Ummm Vasquez is a very good lightweight...

Take it you haven't seen much of Vasquez.

Vasquez is legitimately one of the top 3 LWs right now. It's the most challenging fight that Burns could take at LW aside from Broner. And if he wins this he wants Broner next. I can't really think of a more credible way of challenging for the undisputed title.

Those fights were 5 years ago now Truss hardly something to use against him. He's one of the top 3 at the weight so is the best fight available for Burns aside from Broner.

Also why hasn't Broner come in for the same stick for fighting Rees? Burns' fight would be the more difficult of the two on paper.

Vasquez is a very good fighter and for me its a 50/50 fight against Ricky Burns.

Vasquez moves alot and this is bound to go 12 rounds. Staying awake will be the hard part.

This happened alot when Khan was up and coming i.e "They once shared a ring with *well known fighter's name here* "

It is a pretty desperate marketing ploy. But as for Vasquez, very credible opponent with a good chance of winning.

Richard Abril is probably the second best lightweight after Broner.

Abril got punked against Rios, otherwise he'd be the WBA champion.

Vazquez is a top fighter, probably the 3rd best at 135.

Vazquez & Burns tied 3rd.

It's the principle..........These days too many guys are getting shots at the title and being sold as someone who gave him and him a good fight!!

So in essence they've qualified for a shot because they've been beat..

He's a defending Truss who's ranked two places above Burns in the ring magazine rankings, he's been champion for a couple of years so no matter how you spin it it's a great match up.

Not sure who he should be fighting against @ 135 if he's not facing DeMarco, Broner, Abril or Vasquez... Add in Burns as a total figure and you've got the top 4 in the division.

Certainly trumps other champions who seem to think the "he's coming here to win (but he's really going to be found out and may coast a couple of rounds so I don't get hanged in the locker room" statements will make us all tune in and buy tickets..

Your right in principle but Vasquez is a terrible choice as an example.

Maybe this guy is an exception to the rule..........But too many challengers sole claim to fame is..He gave him a good fight..he went the distance wit him!

I'm sure I've heard someone use this term, in describing Witherspoon and Bonecrusher.

It's annoying when they're not actually talented - ie Kevin Johnson's greatest achievement being each of the one sided rounds he lost to Vitali. Vazquez is not of that ilk though, he lost to Alvarez by split decision in his debut fight. Given that he's now a top guy at 154 and Vazquez is lightweight there's no shame in that.

Watch him and you'll see, he's an excellent boxer.

When Broner?burns fails to materialize, no doubt Rees will be drafted in and it will be sold on the "He gave Broner a good fight" tag.

Technically, Gavin gave everything he had, he didn't give Broner a good fight but that's not Gav's fault. However, I fully expect Warren to milk it along those lines

Burns is a Warren fighter..........Broner is good..

It won't happen!!
