It was grim to say the least, you wonder if the England players at times have ever played together, the communication and control especially in the final 3rd was amateur, Walcott thought he was wearing yellow I'm sure.

I made the decision to play Madden instead of watching England because I knew it would be terrible. I still listened to it, but outside of tournaments I can't much care for England at the moment.

Morning.

THe game last night was dire, but I think it is a little harsh on England. The game plan was clear fromt he start that we weren't going to be very ambitious and that we would draw Ukraine on to us and we could hit them on the break. Unfortunately, Ukraine are a counter attacking team, so they also sat waiting for us to attack and it ended with two poor teams waiting for the other to attack.

For me it was job done. I don't want to watch it, but at this point, I would rather qualify with a dour, un-attacking display, than go on the attack and not qualify

I sometimes wonder why I want us to qualify so badly. I mean, I know we'll probably get knocked out in Round 2 again, so it's hardly worth bothering with it all currently.

I will get results up at kunch. I see no-one actually took advantage of the elongated deadline Laugh

People have to realise we are not a big side, this is our level. It's a bit like people laughing at Arsenal failing to challenge for the title but in reality they are a team fighting for 4th.

Genuinely think we have a mental block within the national team. Players don't play as well as normal and they rein in the ambition. Loathe to blame the media but it's a tough situation to play for England nowadays with the intense criticism you'll get for doing anything slightly wrong. Seem like they're fearful when they're playing.

Think of it is a champions league 2nd leg game, a 0-0 sends you through. If it was Shakhtar vs United and they went there doing the same they'd get credit.

Because it's England, they get unfair flak.

This is what I thought. People harp on about us not being a big side, but then expect us to attack strong teams and not use a conservative gameplan to get the job done

I don't expect great things from England. Being able to play teams like Ukraine and Montenegro and not be outplayed isn't really a great feat though.

Only wins against Moldova and San Marino and 3 goals in 4 games against other teams tells its own story

The midfield was poor last night and Walker aside, I think Wilshere was probably our worst player.

We also learnt that Gerrard and Lampard can't play together.....

But I also think we shouldn't consider ourselves better than Ukraine. We're not in my opinion. I would put us on a par

I can't argue with that. Hodgson has always been a conservative manager, so I think you have to accept that we are never going to play attacking football under him.

Last night was clear that we need someone to hold on to the ball in the CM, and someone creative ahead of them. Getting Rooney and Sturridge back in, instead of Milner and Lambert will make a difference

Can I postpone the match week just gone?? I have one hand & it will take me a while to write tactics. Alternatively I can do some short ones to submit now if really needed.

That's the worst I've seen Wilshere play in a long long time. Very poor. Kyle Walker's defending is just laughable, positioning is non existant. Redmond/Pilks will tear him a new one on Saturday.

I think we have to accept that the older players are on their last legs and the young ones haven't matured enough yet. We're very much a team in transition imo

Wilshere was inexplicably played at AM and Gerrard and Lampard at CM. Considering how well Wilshere plays at CM and how well Lampard plays further forward, it just didn't make sense. Had Lampard and Wilshere swapped positions I think we'd have played a lot better last night.

The 4-3-3 system would work fine with the right players. Last night Milner did alright, but Gabby Agbonlahor has been exceptional at LW this season and should have been called up to replace Welbeck.

How about we play it next week (i.e. tactics in a week Friday) and use the same injuries that are drawn next week?
