In a shopping centre against an unnamed opponent. I think it will be someone who isn't getting enough fights. JDG or Martin Murray or something like that. I know that both have fights planned but these things can be changed and contracts would have cancellation clauses.wheelchair1991 wrote:that would seem strange as degale already has a fight planned in November with hennessyPedro147 wrote:James De Gale?
However I'm probably wrong about both of the above, just guessing.

Martin Murray would be good.
Peter Quillin's management were complaining a few weeks back that they'd worked really hard to tee up a fight with Murray, even willing to come to the UK, but that the Hatton CEO was useless and kept scuppering it. Said Hatton himself wasn't the issue, and that they had a good relationship with Ricky, just the CEO was a numpty.

I thought Murray had some fight lined up against an Aussie guy and if he won that he would be up against Golovkin next.

Long shot but could be Fury. Is already working with them on the Haye fight and he may have seen the hype and purses Sky can deliver and thought he is better off with them. Would agree though that Murray seems the smart pick.

Re: matchroom new signing
Yea I would say it's Murray.
Can't see it being Fury as it would be a massive rumour by now.
Any big name thats about to be unveiled seems to be leaked more often than not. The lesser known names are normally kept under wraps.
Would be a decent scoop to bag Murray. Hatton promos dont seem to have a clue what to do with him at the minute. Hearn would at least deliver decent fights in the UK for him rather that pack him off to Germany, Argentina, Australia each time.
Defo won't be Cleverly. There is nothing in the world that Matchroom can do to convince people he will be a major player anymore.

Whoever it is its good news for most of us as we'll get to see him on Sky. Hoping it'll be Murray as there are plenty of decent fights out there for him.

Murrays got the three world title shots and is close to a shot with Golovkin. I dont think he can complain too much about lack of opportunities. Hearn is packing Barker off for his world title matches. No difference.

Re: matchroom new signing
But he delivered for Barker at least. Do you really think he would have sent Barker to that football stadium in Argentina to be spat at like Murray was?
Barker got the Martinez fight in Atlantic City. I would say Hearn had a good hand to play in that location. And he didn't send Barker to Australia either, which Hatton is for Murray.
Even though Barker has been packed off, those fights where at least not in the opponents backyard.

Re: matchroom new signing
From what I can gather Hearn gave Barker the option with regard to travelling to Germany. The reality is though the Germans were offering him way more than he would have got over here and like Hearn says a million is life changing kind of money. Given he has also managed to get him a rematch clause in the contract think he has done as much as can be expected to protect Barker.

Yes I think he would have sent Barker to Argentina. Hes sending Barker to Germany. Wherever the money is to be made. I dont think Murray has too much to complain about. Hes going to have to travel to get his title shots.

Re: matchroom new signing
Murray wasn't sent to Argentina to get spat at, he went there because it's one of the few places Murray can get a bleedin' visa to fight. He whinges and cries about Hatton not securing him a big fight then conveniently forgets that, WITHOUT a belt, he's nothing to offer anyone and therefore he's going to have to travel to face the big boys and the biggest of the lot was Martinez. As Champ, Martinez wanted a fight in Agrentina and Murray wasn't going to get into America so what were his options?
Murray is coming across as an ungrateful little **** of late and should remember that it's his own stupidity that caused him to end up with a criminal recrd which now inhibits his progress as a fighter NOT anything his promotor is failing to do.

Re: matchroom new signing
Murray HAD to go overseas and accept the demands of the guys he was facing. There is no negotiating, either take the fight or you're not getting it.
Barker has the belt so they would have the final say on where he goes and I'm sure they chose to go to Germany, not forced to go.
Murray may have to travel to get another shot if he's with Hearn, but at least Murray will have somebody who can at least get a little leg room when it comes to the conditions of the fight. By the looks of things (and what Quillan mentioned) Hatton Promotions are a shambles at this...hence things falling apart for them.
What is Murray's criminal record for anyway? Must be a bad one if he can't get a visa.

Dunno but some lad from the X Factor didn't get to go see Gary Barlow in New York due to Visa issues. He's some young wannabe gangsta type but now his band are through (should have put a spoiler alert there) he's still allowed to sing on the show. Thing is, they're making it sound like Barlow has moved Heaven and Earth for this to happen and are equating it with Terry Waite's effort to free Hostages in Beiruit all those years ago

No, the kid can't travel to the USA but I fail to see this being a problem in the future as they're unlikely to win and need to go to America for any rason...unless McDonald's are doing an exchange programme.

If it ends with Barlow being held captive, alone, chained to a radiator, somewhere in Beiruit, for 5 years then I'll give him the credit her deserves.DAVE667 wrote:Dunno but some lad from the X Factor didn't get to go see Gary Barlow in New York due to Visa issues. He's been on Ringside as well.

Jamie McDonnell severed ties with Hobson yesterday. You would assume it's him.

matchroom new signing part 2
according to boxrec Jamie mcDonnell has cut ties with his promoter Dennis Hobson. Also Stephen Smith has terminated his contract with Frank Warren although as usual Warren disputes this(ricky burns revisited) so its one of those two apparently what are your thoughts?

McDonnell has left Hobson? I'd be hugely surprised considering the investment Hobson put in.
I said Smith the other day (odd move considering the brotherhood angle).

Be very surprised if it isn't McDonnell or at a push Stephen Smith....either way the news is not good as it would appear that Frank Warren/Queensbury Promotions have lost another 2 fighters. With Hearn also getting in on the International fight scene now (Bradley/Marquez: Cotto/Rodriguez: Alvardo v Provodnikov: Golovokin v Stevens) their must be some concern in the Frank Warren/Boxnation camp.

Re: matchroom new signing
Why would Warren even want Stephen Smith on his books. Hardly an arena filler (or potential one). Let him walk.
McDonnell might even get those 17 people who bought tickets for his world title fight to come back and watch him again.

Got flattened when he stepped up against Lee Selby. His level is there for all to see.
Just don't see what can be done with him (long term), McDonnell maybe can cash in a bit with Hearn, but he will not make the type of money a world champion should. Nobody knows him outside of his own town.

Re: matchroom new signing
Chicken and egg situation though. Nobody knows McDonnell because he is stuck with a promoter without a TV deal. His fight with Ceja was a cracker, if he can deliver fights like that with anything like regularity he will get an audience. Think people need to be realistic, not every fighter is going to be Ricky Hatton. Jamie drew 3,000 to his last fight, it only looked so few because the arena could hold way more.Reborn-DeeMcK-Reborn wrote: McDonnell maybe can cash in a bit with Hearn, but he will not make the type of money a world champion should. I accept 3,000 is hardly breaking box office records but he is a likeable kid, reasonably entertaining to watch and from a town not exactly flushed with boxing success so if promoted right no reason he cannot draw to some level. Personally I hope it is Jamie as he deserves a wider audience.
