Pettersen gets 3rd win... but in running for Player of the Year... WTF?
Good for Suzanne... great win. I enjoy watching her and appreciate the intensity in the way she goes about her work.... OH yeah... not hard on the eyes either... (regardless of her "preferences" as some have suggested... :-)
But that said, I find it crazy that Pettersen is still in the running for Player of the Year if she wins out in her last few events.
Consider:
Suzanne Pettersen has 3 wins this year, one of them a major.
Stacy Lewis also has 3 wins this year, one of them a major.
But Inbee Park has 6 wins this year including THREE majors.
IMO this is where points systems if not properly formulated get out of whack... how can a player with 5 wins (if Suzanne wins her remaining 2) and 1 major compared to another player with 6 wins and 3 majors even be in the running for POY?
But according to the LPGA system which awards points on top-10 finishes Pettersen is still in the running... If I have it figured correctly Inbee Park is at 290 points, Pettersen at 252, Lewis at 200. So sure enough... if Pettersen were to win 2, her 60 points would jump her above Inbee, unless Inbee were to earn 13 more points on her own.
(LPGA POY points are based on this scale = Win=30, 2nd=12, then 9,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 through 10th place - Points doubled for majors)
If the LPGA used the same point system the PGA of America uses for their men's POY... Inbee would have an insurmountable lead at this point:
206 - Inbee Park - 30+90+16+20+50=206
86 -- Suzanne Pettersen - 20+30+18+18+0=86
86 -- Stacy Lewis - 20+30+20+16+0=86
PGA of America Points formula in order as represented above
*Regular season wins = 10 points each
*Major Championships = 30 points each
*Scoring Average = 20 pts for 1st, 18 for 2nd, continuing to decline by 2 points down to 10th place.
*Money list = Same as for Scoring average above.
*Multiple majors in a year = 50 point bonus

Is the POY dictated by points? Or is there a selection committee that can use their own discretion in choosing the player of the year? If it's the former then that's bull-crap. If it's the latter then I'm sure they will see sense and Inbee will be named player of the year.

Incontinentia, the LPGA formula is points based with no room for Subjectivity.

Phew, what a relief. For a moment there, I thought you were talking about the other one.

Pettersen has 4 lpga wins this year, not 3 (Lotte, Safeway, Evian and Taiwan).
