They are on the list of teams the NFL can force to be on it this year (Bears, Bills, Cardinals, Giants, Jaguars, Raiders, Rams, Steelers).GSC wrote:The Giants sign DRC and become the favorites for Hard Knocks

Bye bye good secondary and top 3 defense. DRC is the last veteran CB that will make a difference. I expect us to re-sign Cromartie and draft a CB too but that will take time to work out.

Dysfunction brewing in the Jets FO I think. Rex needs to win now, Idzik seems to be resisting. Really Woodys fault

What?
Idzik has sorted out the front office. No longer are there stories leaked and unnamed locker room sources. Idzik is resisting bringing in overpriced FA's that got us in this mess in the first place. We brought in Eric Decker on a very cheap deal and let Austin Howard go for big money elsewhere. Idzik wasn't tempted by Revis or DRC's threats to go elsewhere and stuck to his plan. Rex was kept in a job last year because the players love him and we overachieved and finished 8-8. Rex has always been like a puppy attracted to the shiny things. It's the reason we've drafted defense in the 1st round the last 5 years and drafted players like Stephen Hill and Mark Sanchez.

James Jones is a nice signing. Lines up outside along with one of Streater or Holmes I'd imagine. I think Denarius Moore is a slot guy with the quickness and height.
Now if only we had someone that could throw the ball...
Or a not-broken running back to take some pressure off the passing game...

I read somewhere that Denarius Moore and Terrelle Pryor could be traded to the Panthers.

Pryor could be a good backup for Cam actually, they could run an identical offense because of their similar skillsets. Although Cam can also complete passes...
Moore is actually my least favourite receiver we have now. He's a good player but Streater, Jones and Holmes all have the size and we have Brice Butler too, who I also think can be a good player.

As long as we don't give up a pick for Schaub
I wanted Freeman all along. Kick the tyres for a year, he can start if we have to and he's young.
We're drafting a QB in round 1 or 2 anyway. Surely...

We've managed to get Browner, Revis and LaFell for under 12 million on the 14 cap, and with Browner/LaFell they're deals where its performance based and there's not much long term risk

LaFell means absolutely nothing. You can take him off that list. You still need help at WR.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
Oh god yeah he's not the answer, but he can be a nice contributor.
He had what 49 receptions, 627 yards and 5TD's last year on a team that don't chuck it that much. If he can get that to 60-70 receptions, 700-900 yards and the same amount of TD's he'll be worth it easy.
I'd like us to give Britt a shot in camp, see if he's got anything left.

I wouldn't worry NYJ, if he won the starting job for you he'd break down after a few quarters anyway.
Geno is a pretty handy runner in space himself actually. I don't see what Vick adds aside from experience of the league. Geno has a plenty strong arm and equally questionable decision making...

Nothing wrong with having a vet backup to push Geno.

Having a vet backup is all well and good if they bring continuity and ball security. Vick brings neither.

I don't believe that. Rex was kept on (rightly) because the players love to play for him and he gets the most out of them. Woody is mentally insane, but if the team continues to move in the right direction, Rex will be here.

Isn't that every single contract then? "He only got a 3 year deal to make it look as if they want him for 3 years!".

I think Vick can still do a decent job in the NFL as a starter but i dont think he will get that, I think he will end up as a back up to a youngster somewhere, well thats unless the Raiders give him a starters job....

If the Rex had convinced management he was worth sticking with, he wouldn't have received a 1 year deal with "options"
It's a bandaid because they didn't want to give him a long term deal.

He has 2 years left on his deal with options to extend. The contract is laden with incentives for post season wins as well. As far as I'm concerned, Rex is being told that he has two years to make the playoffs. This shows that the management has confidence in him to do well but he isn't going to get let off with poor results like Marvin Lewis has been for years.

I don't think Vick wants to be a backup or else the best situation for him would have been to stay in Philadelphia. Big question is can he stay fit for an entire season.
From what I have heard/ seen from the Raiders they are not really interested in Vick.

You can say he's past his prime or that he isn't great against the run, but the last time he didn't hit double digits in sacks was 2006 (the only other time was his rookie season). Really surprised there wasn't more interest.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
No team would give him the money he was looking for at his age unless they are a contender looking for the final pieces in the jigsaw for the next season or two. Hence the Seahawks and Broncos being the only really serious options. Be interesting to see though if he got the same deal from Seattle that he turned down in Denver and then watched DeMarcus Ware get. It's be pretty funny if his greed cost him money in the end.

So how much is in this DeSean Jackson story? Just a story that is being overblown by the media? Got to be surely cos that makes zero sense for the Eagles.

Jared Allen to the Seahawks, hasn't quite happened yet. He says he will decide over the weekend but I would expect it to still be done anyway.

It looks as if the QB free agency could be open with Vick going to the Jets, Ryan Fitzpatrick heading to the Texans and Schaub going the the Raiders.

I really hope this doesn't happen, the fact that it would be a trade as opposed to free agency, it'd be like the Palmer trade all over again and while we may not make the same mistake of giving up more than we should, it won't exactly further the on field results

Schaub to Oakland for a late round 2014 pick.
If Oakland can get him back to his 2011/12 self then you got a top 10-15 QB. Just a case of whether 2013 was an anomoly

I wonder if we will see some if the draft QBs drop? Most teams have a capable QB.signed and make look at some of the elite talent in other positions and draft a QB later on.

I don't think signing Fitzmagic will alter the Texans draft plans, he provides veteran backup. I'm becoming more sure they'll take a QB
Don't think Oakland will once they've got Schaub, think McKenzie doesn't fancy a QB in this class but knows he's gotta get some wins soon so has taken a vet
