Watch the video, Palisson is clearly knocked out, gets up eventually and as you can see can't even stand.

8 mins later he's "cleared" and returns to play.

Later he tweets that he was knocked out but it was his call to return to the field!

As World Rugby investigated Munster over Murray (cleared) and Saints over North (found guilty) you have to hope they will look at this.

And they should just ban the player from making that kind of decision

Why the player ???

If concussed the whole point is you are not fit to make the decision.

Its the club and the coaches who should be hit - Noyes got away with an outrageous disregard of protocols a couple of years ago.

I think he means that the player should not be allowed to make the decision, which the rules say he is not.

That is pretty awful. If he was knocked out then it must have been only for an instant as he was back on his feet straight away.

As has been said he should not be the one making the decision - if the medics said he's not to go back on but let him go back on because he said he was fine, then the medics/club need to get the punishment.

If the medics passed him as fit then I'm sure they'll be asked to show what was done.

I've now read 3 different time periods for his return to play, the first article I read was either 16 or 18 mins which seemed excessive and I've since read 6 mins and now 8. While the time isn't necessarily important I think it does highlight that maybe some reporting on it is lacking in the full facts

The worrying part is that medical personnel allowed him to return which is negligent never mind flying in the face of the HIA rules

It was ERC who investigated those incidents as they happened in European games, it would be LNR/FFR who would have responsibility for any investigation which I wouldn't have much faith in to be honest

This showed a little more detail. Palisson clearly takes a big hit and tries to get on his feet without much success.

I don't think it's clear from any of the coverage if he was knocked out, nobody can say definitively from that footage.
We can say with 100% clarity that he wasn't fit to remain in the game and that such a decision is never the players to make, they will always want to play on.

I think knocked silly is the right phrase to use but he did seem more steady when going off, the question is medically how safe was it for him to return no matter who made the decision?

That makes sense.

It is not the players decision now -unless the French teams are contravening the rules

It'll always be a 'grey' space.  The Industry wants it to be grey.  Being grey means that there can always be an argument and a fuzzy but ambitious player can hold it together long enough to shake off a knock-out.

There'll never be full clarity on this, either about when the brain has quite clearly been removed from influencing the body or in the rules applied to allow a player back onto the field.
