Gareth Owen Injury Blow

Post by Cari on Fri 08 Jul 2011, 9:44 am

It's been announced on the Ospreys website this morning that Gareth Owen has suffered a serious injury and could be ruled out of the entire new season! Sad He's already had surgery on a knee ligament and will require a second operation at a later date. There were no further details given.

This isn't the sort of thing I like to hear about any player. Hope he recovers fully and quickly.

It's never nice to hear of a player having a long layoff. Can't say I know much about him. Is he a big loss for you?

Hope he recovers soon.

Best of luck for next season but not in the HC! Ok!

Pity though he slipped down pecking order more than I thought. Was never sure of his best position. Behind Morgan and Biggar at 10, Behind Fussel at 15 and behind Beck at centre.

this was a make or break year for him, v talented player but yet to nail down a position week in week out.
Given the fact he covers 10 12 13 and 15 he would have been ideal cover during the world cup and 6 nations.

I have a bad feeling we will never see him in an osprey shirt again

That's gonna really effect the ospreys chances in the LV!!!!!!

Before I get a barrage of abuse. I'm only joking.

You wouldn't want him to be the next Ben Lewis. Hasn't lived up to expectations and then there career is ruined by injury.

It's horrible really. Especially after he thought he was probably nearing fitness.

I saw him down Risca last year when the Ospreys came to a football tournament and he seemed to be in great shape. It must be hard to pin down why he gets injured so much.

Big loss for the Wales 7's team. The 'new look' team seemed to be going well and Gareth Owen was probably one of our best players in the last tournament.

The dragons Martin Thomas has had some shocking injuries and there has been some good news today as he's expected to be fit for the start of the season. I just hope he can regain the form he was showing and hasn't lost his blistering place. With Wales so weak at 15, you wonder if he hadn't broken his leg, with an ankle dislocation against the blues over a year ago, he might have been in the Wales squad.
You just don't want to see these players rushed back and the same problem re-occurring.

Horrible news for Gareth Owen, especially that it's looking to be such a long lay off. All the best to him in his recovery.

He hasn't had much luck has he?

And I was hoping this (next) season that he'd finally put everything behind him and show us if he was just all unfilled potential or turn into a really good player - unfortunately he may just become another injury prony never was...

This is bad news for the player - all the best in rehab - a shame in many respects. As a player that has been touted repeatedly as a player of the future at all levels, I have yet to see anything from him that would lead me to believe that he can fulfill this promise. And I disagree that he had been an exceptional player in the sevens circuit - he cost the team the game against SA by backing himself to much and conceeding the try, and nearly cost us the game in the match prior to that with the same attitude. This season I was hopefull that regular first team rugby would have matured him into being a team player.

Maybe next season?

All the best - hope the physio post operation goes well.

Sad news for the kid, it will set his career back a season.
Hopefully he will make a full recovery.

Shame- this would have been an important season for him. Wonder if the ospreys will now try and recruit another utility player to cover owens absence?

Much of that has been due to his injury record...! Which is on a par with Henson and Byrne.

Maybe a year out, a famous girlfriend and staring in a few hit Reality TV shows will sort him out....?

owen has bags of natural ability but it never seemed to work out for him on the field.

a year out might seem like a huge blow to his carrer but if he matures in to the player i think he could be he will have a good future at the higest levels of the game.
