yeah definitely. If they played that way when chasing a total properly they'd be throwing the game away with an early out probably.

Exactly. If they get out first ball slogging with India needing 40 to win or something, they get slaughtered

It'll be fun to see Dhoni bat when the pressure is really on. Just won't be possible to whack about an play t20 like this.

Jimmy just can't get Dhoni off strike so I think he'll have to settle for 4 wickets...Dhoni has played really well.

I didn't mean hitting out in the way that Kumar has. I meant more the way Dhoni has approached his innings in a positive manner (albeit mostly out of necessity). He's played some big shots, yes, but has also accumulated runs sensibly and generally been more positive.
I was just wondering, if he can do that, being arguably one of the lesser talents in India's batting lineup, then why have the "big" names failed so often this series? Is it purely because they've been up against fresher bowlers using newer balls? Surely top order batsmen are supposed to be able to cope with those?

what a frustrating period.
India will not just hand this series to England without a serious fight.

Dhoni now 70 off 75 balls. Another gutsy, if futile, innings.
Wonder if Sreesanth can hang around long enough for him to get a ton?

See Broads face there.. KP could not even bothered to chase that 4 down
If these manage something special and get them a lead now he might regret that.
Big "if" of course.

It was to put Sreesanth back on strike, wasn't being lazy.
Re: England vs India 3rd Test Debate
Cracking stuff from Eng.
Well done on beating the best team in the world and some of the best batsmen ever.
Even all the guys returning did not save India. Glad we did it no as next couple of weeks could be very wet and last test might not get finished.

Re: England vs India 3rd Test Debate
Cheers Alfie. Good timing that.
I'll miss the end of the rugby but Roland is doing his usual blowing eng out of that anyway so happy to miss it (mind you they are throwing it away turning down tons of kicks).

Re: England vs India 3rd Test Debate
Looking at the schedule there.. i'm sure India will win the ODI series comfortably.
They've shown they are very good in that form.
Interesting fourth test then.. India must not lose or SA will pass them in the rankings.

Cheers Linebreaker :-)
I don't think i could have ever imagined a year in which England could beat SL, Aussie and India on their way to topping the table. So this is what it feels like then. something you know well

Enjoy the last Test and the ODIs, trebs.
Your double reverse jinxes paid off mate!
Yes, it's a good feeling for sure... that feeling of every other team wanting to see your downfall.

Re: England vs India 3rd Test Debate
If England continue playing like this, we could be top for a very long time.
Re: England vs India 3rd Test Debate
Thanks for those thoughts Linebreaker ...
Now we can turn our attention to Australia's attempt to move back up the ladder via success in Sri Lanka ...
(And of course the Oval Test where England will look for the whitewash )

At least a few years I would say.
The thing is, there will be reactions from other teams to emulate this England side (as happens in other sports) and it's easier said than done to remain on the top of the heap.
I honestly thought (before the Indian injuries) this would be a nail-biting, very closely fought series... something like 2-1 either way, one draw. To see India's fall from grace in this fashion has been a big surprise to witness. England will have a break from tests for a while (after the 4th Test) before their next tour while SA, India, NZ and Oz all have a relatively packed schedule. They'll have to ensure they don't get too ahead of themselves, remain confident but not take their current status for granted when they tour next. I mean... just look at what happened to Oz and India during the last few years. Australia had 142 points... now 100. India around 130... now 118? or something.

Re: England vs India 3rd Test Debate
Maybe the problem was Indian team was not psyched up enough. The players they actually sent were:
ReLax Man
Instant Karma
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz here
etc, etc

Quite right I feel I've played my part.
Will be back in time for the Oval test , depending on the wicket will england play the same old side or try a different strategy if the pitch is flat and we need more bowlers.

We are too good for mickey mouse sides like Sri Lanka and India. Their seamers are barely medium paced and their spinners are crap.
