Was Max Baer a nice guy?

Just a simple question and I'm not trying to generate a big debate.



Obviously he was portrayed quite badly in Cinderella Man, and I also read on Wiki that he is meant to have propositioned Braddocks wife.



That said I read on here last night that he was actually a really decent bloke.

Stories abound concerning Baer's generosity of spirit and fun loving nature, Sean.

His interviews, both filmed and written, are very funny indeed and just about everybody who knew him had kind words for him, including opponents. As far as I know, the only person with whom Madcap Maxie shared bad blood was King Levinsky, though Galento briefly got under his skin, also.

Lovely fella, by all accounts.

I too have heard that Baer was a really nice guy and was simply portrayed that way in the film so that Braddock i.e. good guy was up against a bad guy.

Baer's family have been very critical of his portrayal in the film.
