Solheim Cup
First topic message reminder :
Bit of a rushed thread as with being busy this week completely forgot to write a proper thread.....
But to start am I the only one that thinks maybe the US should have named their opening pairing the othe way around as Wie/Kerr reads Weaker!! Just a thought

Re: Solheim Cup
So why should a player who hasn't started get a half out of a game that they are in no state to partake in, while the other person is fit?

According to Rosie Jones she was, and Rosie knew she was taking a risk playing her four sessions. Then she specifically asked Kerr before handing in her batting order.
Alison Nicholas chose not to take a similar risk with Mel Reid.
Kwini,
do you mean that had Kerr been withdrawn before the singles list was handed in that a half would have been offered??

Use a sub for gods sake! It's in nobodys interest if a match is skipped, least the fans'.

Re: Solheim Cup
John,
I believe that's correct though exactly how the Solheim rules read I'm not sure. Said Rosie:
"I checked with her every single match to make sure. The last thing I did right before I submitted my pairings was to check on Cristie. She felt good."
"I checked her every day to see if she could go."

In fairness, none of this should take away from some of the remarkable golf played yesterday.......the Wie Peddersen match in particular was fantastic.....the more the pressure, the better the golf became
Too true John.
I thought Munoz, Creamer, Petterson, Davies, Reid, Matthews and O'Toole all played some excellent golf at various times.
I hope they've done enough to attract more viewers to women's golf

Don't rate Melissa Reid much (I would though, obviously), and Munoz would get some of my attention for about 3 mins, if she were lucky.

I'd quite happily have Suzy P as my better ball partner, birdie birdie birdie finish under that kind of pressure was immense. Certainly wouldn't kick her out of bed for farting either (although she might to me!!)

Re: Solheim Cup
On a more serious note...is there a girli equivalent of the Presidents Cup?? Given the slightly different balance of power in the women's game (which ok maybe just temporary) it seems a shame that the Asian contingent don't get an opportunity to compete in a big team matchplay event

Re: Solheim Cup
JAS,
No!
Because the American media assumed last week's affair would be a walkover, there was chattering clamour to add "Internationals" to the European Team, or to otherwise integrate "Internationals" somehow.
But that will now be on the back burner.
Fact is, the American Team and pool of players is pretty threadbare, as is shown by the inclusion of a(n admittedly terrific) 51-y-o and a girl who'd only got about a dozen undistinguished events under her belt - although she played like a seasoned veteran.
But the reduction in the number of tournaments in the US, and the prevalence of limited field in events that still have life, means that fewer and fewer girls are getting proper tournament experience with the exception of the elite few who come out and win quickly so securing places in the limited fields.
In comparison, I'd say the Ladies European Tour affords better opportunity for growing the Ladies game, especially as the better ones can also compete around the world.

Tendonitis doesn't come on overnight, it was most likely exacerbated by Kerr playing 4 games out of 4.
I was at the Solhiem Cup and the story is that Kerr injured her wrist lifting her luggage off the carousel at Dublin Airport. Rosie Jones knew at the Opening Ceremony that Kerr was carrying the injury and was concerned from Friday. Which begs the question why Jones played her in four consecutive matches. Also, Kerr herself had a role to play in this, if she was in so much pain why didn't she ask to be rested on either Friday or Saturday to ensure she would start the singles. On Sunday Kerr was walking about with her wrist secured in a light cast and her arm in a sling.
It's Karen Stupples I feel sorry for. She will always be known for the match that never happened and she is such a fiesty character I would have put money on her injuring Kerr's pride too.

Much more interesting than Cristie Kerr's limp wrist:

I can't get this link about Sophie Gustafson to work but go to Golf Digest and navigate to Golf Digest Women.
I missed the live piece they did. Glad to find this. She's quite a star.
