No Friction Tees Empty No Friction Tees

Post by Noshankingtonite Thu 03 Mar 2011, 1:28 pm

I wonder if anyone else has been using these bad boys? I got a few freebies to try with (I think) G.M. I used them in a practice round and then sallied for to A.G. and bought a packet. They purport to give you longer drives, because they allow more impact with the ball, rather than the tee and the ball (which explains why the pink shoulder tees I previously used either broke or flew 20 yds). these ones stay in the ground which does look rather 8) and I seem to be getting along well with them. Has anyone else given them a crack yet?

It's a little bit of wood.

If you manage to hit the tee rather than the ball with your driver you are doing something seriously dodgy at impact and I would suggest lessons rather than a funky tee peg.

And with irons who wants more yardage anyway?

I have used them, the only benefit i see is that they are more durable than wood tees...

LJ: I only use them for Driver or Fairway tee shots. With the modern deep-faced drivers it's pretty inevitable you will take the tee out with the drive, that's why you see so many broken tees on the deck. I would rate my driving as pretty solid tbh thumbsup

To be honest a wooden tee can last me anything up around 6 whacks with a driver. And I use broken ones for anything else anyway.

I soak my tee pegs in Castrol GTX, give me an extra 2.4 yards on average with the driver Yahoo

Even though I reckon that would modify the driver by creating a layer between the ball and the clubface thus reducing sidespin I won't say anything as I reckon you could do with the distance boost. devil

I use them and they are great. Dunno if they actually give any more distance but i like them. I can also use wodden ones but not as perfect at striking a ball as LJ it seems - i rather think its more luck having a tee last 6 shots than amazing ball striking but i am happy to be put in my place. Also depends on how high you tee the ball up leaving less tee in the ground might mean less chance of breaking.

Anyway non friction tees dont make it go futher in my expereince but they are good fun trying to get the ball balanced with cold shakey hands.

OnetoAnother..

I don't see how anyone could manage to hit a tee peg when the ball is on top of it in such a way as to decrease the yardage. The tee is about 3/4 of a cm across at the bottom of the ball so the first thing you're going to hit with the club is about 3/4 of an inch of ball... unless you manage to come vertically up from under the ball.

Makes no sense to me that you could hit the tee first and as a result steal power from the shot.

That said I'm sure there's 'scientific' proof that these work.

As for the tees not breaking... one of the benefits of that soft essex clay. The tee just jumps up from the damp ground rather than snapping in it. Very Happy

If they gave you even a few yards would the pro's not use them? They seem to try anything to get one over the field, and no doubt they need.

I have used them after someone kindly gave me them as stocking filler.

Tosh and marketing hyperbole.

Anything to wrest a few more pennies from your pocket.

I perfectly happy with pink castles for driving, broken wooden for long irons and a kicked up piece of turf for short irons.

A friend of mine had some free ones with brushes on the top endorsed by J Rose. Looked like Bart Simpsons head! Whistle

Tried them, mainly because I came across some pink ones. Pink show up well on grass you see...no other reason.

Can't say I notice any difference from any other tee what-so-ever. Decent marketing gimmick in a sport that's full of them.

Pretty sure I got round on Sunday with one tee for the driver and one for irons, both white wooden ones. As LJ says, benefits of Essex clay (mud)!

Shanker - I've seen people using the ones with brushes but these aren't the ones I've been using. Mine are orange plastic ones with three prongs on, on which the ball nestles ready for you to smite it. I wouldn't say it's made a huge difference and it might be in my head Erm but I reckon I'm definitely hitting the ball more solidly than off those pink castle tees.

NST

Maybe these new tees are just better suited to the height you need to tee the ball and you are hitting more out the middle?
Whatever, if you feel you are hitting it more solidly then there is no harm in that :-)

I started using the 4-Yards More tees about 2 season ago.

And I have seen:
absolutely no improvement in distance or accuracy
absolutely no worsening in distance or accuracy

But - I get about 4 months use out of each tee - BIG money savers

"who you calling tight fisted?" Ok!

NST - careful........if you keep on saying how good these tees are and how much straighter and further you are hitting the ball, I might be tempted to cut your handicap on the 606 eclectic. Wink

And I could very nearly agree with them just for the reason given by Ronin and make them obligatory, then maybe the tee area will not look quite so much like a lumberyard.

Guys - I've taken the lliberty of splitting the eclectic posts off into a new thread which I will make sticky until the contest is over.

It seemed like it deserved its own thread anyway and this one had got pretty much off topic!

Hope that's OK with you
