KARTICK TO SURREY
Murali Kartick looks certain to sign a two year deal with Surrey shortly.
Desperate to return to London after his time with Middlesex,Murali never really settled at Somerset.

Hopefully we won't sign a player simply because it would be c(ath)artic for them to return to LondonLOVERBOY wrote:Murali Kartick looks certain to sign a two year deal with Surrey shortly.

Re: KARTICK TO SURREY
How many wickets did Batty,Ansari and Spriegal combined get you in division two last season?

Re: KARTICK TO SURREY
Loverboy - wickets (+ their average) taken in Div 2 last season by Surrey players who come under the heading of spinners (loosely defined in some cases) were:
Batty 36 (33.33)
Ojha 24 (12.95)
Ansari 6 (26.33)
Schofield 5 (46.00)
Pieterson 1 (24.00)
Hamilton-Brown 1 (107.00)
Spriegel did not play at all in the CC (tho' he played in every match in the successful CB40 campaign where he took 11 wickets @ just over 27)
Contrast is sharp - that Ojha made a massive difference at the end of season when we won the last four games. Batty had a reasonable season (certainly compared to the low expectations of many Surrey posters). Schofield hasn't really featured as a regular wicket taker in the cc for a long time. Ansari who has shown a certain amount of promise (not least a steady head) will I think still be at uni and so not available for part of next season.

In addition, nineteen year old slow left armer Freddlie van den Bergh has a summer contract for next season and will join up with Surrey after his university term ends. He was used a bit last season as twelfth man as Adams apparently was keen to give him a feel of first team action. However, even with Schofield now having been released, there would still appear to be a few ahead of him in the pecking order when he joins up and so chances look limited ....

Re: KARTICK TO SURREY
So with Ojha gone,Ansari unavailable, and the aging Batty who'll never win you anything ,there are not that many options, which is why they are glad to be securing Kartick,a proven match -winner at this level.

Kartik would be a pretty decent replacement for Ojha imo if he comes.

Re: KARTICK TO SURREY
In terms of CC then yes, Kartik and Batty would play as the spinners you would think, they are both handy with the bat as well which is good. Seamer positions will be interesting as we will probably have Tremlett/Lewis/Dernbach/Meaker/Viscount all available.
Personally I think Lewis and Viscount will be vital for the new ball and Meaker vital for the old ball and the tail but then Tremlett has to play when available so that probably means only 1 spinner will play, which would be Kartik (if we have him). Where does that leave Dernbach? Interesting times ahead it seems.
