ATP 1000 Paris Bercy 2011

First topic message reminder :

Here we are again...the last tournament of the year, the second indoor 1000 event, Paris Bercy 2011.


And just like in Shanghai, it seems it won't be complete with the best players around: as things stand Djokovic Murray and Federer are all playing, but few will be surprised to see Djokovic pull out in the light of Saturday's injury.

Nadal and Del Potro are also not playing, still, a strong field with Tsonga, Monfils etc promising good fun for tennis fans.


Assuming we have now only Federer and Murray left in the draw as number 1 and 2 seeds**, and that Murray doesn't have any "freak" night injuries, we still have plenty to look forward to in terms of tennis, especially as the surface of Paris Bercy seems to have been made faster*, giving us some really good matches and all-court tennis last year.
* ouch! the surface is back to "slow". According to Andy Murray.

And a double-break to Andy Murray as he breaks to love. Roddick is perplexed and ruins a racquet and Murray leads 3-0.

A hold of serve for Andy Roddick gets him on the scoreboard and Murray leads 6-2 4-1.

Roddick's game looks so utterly toothless now. Even his serve isn't really anything special anymore.

Andy Murray wraps up an impressive 6-2 6-2 win over Andy Roddick to reach the quarter-finals where he will play Berdych or Tipsarevic. Points defended from last year for Andy who wracks up his 26th win in his last 27 matches.

Murray Tispsarevic match will be a cracker, can't wait

very impressive from Murray. When was the last time Roddick failed to serve an ace in a completed match? Forehand looked excellent, and he managed 27 winners to Roddick's 4.

A decent win for Andy.

Go on Andy!! Sounds a comfortable victory. Going to have to catch later on the action.

On a more interesting note, I'd like Dolgo to beat Ferrer.

Exactly Nole came to pick up his cheque then freewheel the tournament, why is he going to want to push his shoulder?

Can't say I am impressed with the criticism levelled at Djokovic. I am not watching it, granted, but still should * his loses this year?

Its not a criticism...its more stating the obvious really, who wouldnt attend to pick up that cheque?
But would he have turned up had that cheque not been on offer given his shoulder injury...

Well since the court is more or less made of sponge he wouldn't.

it's not a very good match this, I wouldn't say Djokovic is "tanking" but there's no doubt the motivation may not quite be there. Shoulder looks OK to me. Troicki seems to have a little too much respect for Djokovic on court.

Troicki plays Djokovic like the Spaniards (except Ferrerro) do against Nadal.

Well it is criticism because are we to say if someone shows up half-heartidly to pick up a cheque is ethically sound?

I'm kind of bemused by this match, I'm not watching it but if Djoko had been told that he'd have a scrappy 2hr+ three-setter on thursday I doubt he'd have been best pleased.

I can't really believe that he wants to fight all the way in this tournie, I can only guess that even at less than 100% it's enough to generate a battle with Troicki and he doesn't want to drop his standard lower or it would be too obvious.

I'm not watching the match, but I'm willing to guess Troicki just threw away his serve with a load of unforced errors.

Well done - he obviously thought 2hrs was too long, put the hammer down and now he's in the QF where he's likely to face Tsonga. Given the draw, unless Djoko contrives to lose to Tsonga he'll probably make the Final. Is that what he wants?

[edit - oops, missed Ferrer there, who ought to beat anything less than a 100% Djoko if that's what he faces]

Well, Nadal didn't seem to turn up, they are sending it to him instead....unlike last year when he tanked in the round of 16

It was a case of "shall I lose, shall I not?" At the end it was too obvious...or Nole may have remembered that his 60% form was better than Troicki's 100% and felt he had win not to avoid troubles.

Tank time is now moving on to Saturday ... I don't think Nole will want to ingratiate himself with the Parisians any more....not afther that RG semi ....

So Tipsy's Paris exit ends any lingering hopes of grabbing a London spot, and the field of eight will be as per current rankings

Considering that Nole reached Round 3 last year and has gone beyond this year suggests that maybe gaining more points might be another notable motivator

Nothing is wrong with Nadal. He does not have to play in Paris this week. He has an exemption because he has played more than 600 matches on the ATP tour. I think you know that...
