Much has been made of India attempting to finally winning a series in Australia, the closest they came was in 1977-78 with a 3-2 loss, though not many this time round will believe the Aussies can continue this drought.
Man for man India's batting attack can match up to anyone's, usually exceeding it, but their bowling attack is the key this series. Whether or not an inexperience bowling line up, harboring Zaheer Khan who still has question marks over his fitness, can deliver consistently and provide the 20 wickets required for each test, is very uncertain.
It would seem like the perfect time to take on Aus after their poor recent defeat to New Zealand, levelling the series. However after today's test victory it would seem that in their 21yr old paceman Pattinson, Australia have found an unpolished gem who picked up the MTM award was ably assisted by Hilfenhaus and Siddle throughout which should have rejuvenated this aussie outfit.
In two innings India have suffered horrible collapses from 214-2 to 282 all out whereas in the second innings India never got going.
Was this down to the Aussie's 'ripsnorting deliveries' (to quote tony greig) or India once again failing to post an imposing total with poor batting.
An unlikely return to form from captain ponting, justifying his selection, proved to be an important decision by the selectors.

India dont tour particularly well and with many of their current crop never likely to tour down under again this series is a must win and end the rot. IMO the state of cricket internationally isn't in its strongest era as the former no1 team lost 4-0 england (its a bit premature) are losing 1-0 to one of the weakest aussie sides ever and werent particularly convincing against the WI's.
So was this just a blip and can we expect an Indian fightback or is this a sign that aussie youth (though one player doesnt make an average side a great one) can help the greatest cricketing nation ever return to the upper echelons of the world rankings?
Over to you!

India's start was excellant, going by that India will make a good come back, winning the series 3-1.

So going by that comment in each test they will make a good start and then revert back to these collapses and lose 4-0?

Only saw about 40 minutes of Pattinson and Hilfenhaus batting last night. It would be overegging things to refer to that as ''Aussie brilliance''. However, there was a lot of nous and determination displayed, particularly by Pattinson. In a fairly low scoring Test, his match total of 55 runs without being dismissed shouldn't be overlooked. Yes, he was given a life last night but he made the most of it and India paid the price.

I think it's too early to draw too many conclusions but do wonder if the confidence inevitably gained by Australia and perhaps lost by India will play an increasing part in this series.
