606v2 World Tour 2012 - INDIAN WELLS

Next Tuesday the draw for the first Masters-1000 event of the year will be announced, and play gets under way on Thursday!
Predictions to be posted on this thread by Thursday 12:00 GMT. Anyone can participate (so no problem if you missed the AO), simply submit your predictions e.g. in the following format:

Losing in QF: Karlovic, Robredo, Gasquet, Wawrinka
Losing in SF: Del Potro, Federer
Runner-up: Nadal, Winner: Djokovic

Some food for thought:

• Djokovic: has been Mr. Invincible but lost in straight sets to Murray in Dubai. Will he bounce back?
  
• Nadal: took February off, is he fit? Can he end his losing streak against Djokovic?
  
• Federer: has he gained enough confidence in Rotterdam and Dubai to beat Rafa/Novak?
  
• Murray: beat the Djoker in Dubai, has he turned the tide?
  
• Ferrer: collected ranking points on the clay courts of Argentina and Mexico, but can he win also 'real' tournaments?
  
• Tsonga: would like to avoid DelPo in the QF! Can he beat a "big 4" player?
  
• Del Potro: only Federer has been able to stop him recently, how would DelPo do against Novak or Rafa?
  
• Raonic: won two 250s already this year, plus a 500 final in Memphis. Can the big 4 handle his serve?
  
• Davydenko: looked impressive in Rotterdam and Marseille. Has he recovered from injury?
  
• Nalbandian: got wild cards for IW and Miami, to be avoided in R1. Can he turn back the clock?

Thanks for organising this Prostaff - I shall ponder when I see the draw and then submit my picks - as I jinx anyone I ever bet on, that is bad news for some!!

Don't forget Fernando Gonzales, who I am honour-bound to pick as the winner.

Is this Gonzo's swansong or is he planning a final exit at a later tournament ? Gosh, in his prime I reckon he would have fancied the Dubai courts!

I think Miami is his last tournament. I jokingly tipped him for IW, then a day later he announced his upcoming retirement, so I feel compelled to stick with the tip.

After the Dubai snoozefest I am sure any reasonable sembelance of a competitive match will seem like a classic. Indian wells is my home tournament although this year I don't think I will be able to make the hour and half drive due to a busy schedule very dissappointed. A very nice tournament.

My predictions one of the big 4 will win it and I am going with Novak. He still hasn't hit top form this season but has defended his AO crown. Novak has won this tournament 2 times and I think he should be very fresh having played very little tennis since the AO.

I think Indian Wells will be very important for Djkokovic after losing Dubai,
He is looking more vulnerable this season then he did last year,Murray and Nadal are sensing that
If he doesn't defend that title it could significantly change the dynamic of how the rest of the season will play out
Novak obviously goes in as the favourite but he has his work out for him as the other 3 are looking very confident and are really gunning for him

Djokovic has a long tough road and large points to defend.

I like summer's picks for the top four and was thinking the same I might bet the same way looking at the draw. Going to study the rest of the draw in a big more depth before betting on QF - hope Delpo is going to get through Ferrer, but I am not sure I think he will in IW

I am very tempted with upsets in early rounds being the norm.

Novak is going to give Andy some payback for the payback he received in Dubai. I attended this tournament in 08 when Novak won it the first time. Conditions really suit his game.

Socal will you add the losing quarter-finalists? (they don't earn you a lot of points but nevertheless!)

Going with the higher seeds, don't see too much in the way of upsets. Maybe Fish over Murray that could be a possible Big 4 upset.

Also, I think Raonic could be a tough one for fed but the slower conditions and outdoor nature of this tournament probably makes this one a tough ask for Milos against Roger. He has yet to translate his indoor success Milos to the outdoors. But who knows he hits a high percentage of first serves and he has a puncher's chance.

Where's Gonzales?! In qualifiers? Not playing? You'd have thought they could give him a wild card.

People liking Isner to get to the quarters, toyed with the idea myself he has carved out a pretty good career for himself. One of the last collegiates possibly to make an impact on the tour.

I hope we don't have the bash bandwagon if Djokovic only wins one slam this year. As LF has pointed out, he has an immense amount of points to defend this year and stands a chance of losing his No1 status if he doesn't. But, he should not be berated for doing so, this is the definitive strong era and its not going to be easy for him.

But I believe he will do well in the slams and not the Masters, if he does win some, it'll be just icing on the cake.

Having said that, I do think he has a good chance of winning this one, but Murray and Nadal may have other ideas in these 3 setter events.

Just to be quick - everything to go according to seeding - seeds 5 - 8 to lose in quarters and so on. Bound to get a few points.

Surprised how many people pick Federer to beat Nadal in the semis and then to lose to Novak in the final. Not impossible, but it looks like a rather unnatural chain of events to me.
