Big wicket of Robson as well - nothing much changes.

Meanwhile, Rob Key and Kent smashing Yorkshire all over the park - 170-1 after 46 overs. Key on 86. Pyrah and Wardlaw both going at over 5 an over. Poor start for the team I tipped for the Division Two title.

Dan Redfern is the first century maker of the season for Derbyshire against Northants.

i have no issues with him in limited overs cricket, but he isnt a f/c bowler.

I think Essex saw that last season and now see Craddock as their FC spinner. Will be interesting to see how he goes but I guess they just thought that Mills was less of a risk on an early April wicket.

Don't know how the pitch is playing obviously but Essex perhaps squandering a chance to score 400-plus against a bowling attack which on paper is frankly toothless - Gloucestershire look hugely reliant on Will Gidman (as an all-rounder) and Hamish Marshall (as a batsman) until Williamson arrives.

To be honest, I can't see how a team containing the likes of Tresco, Hildreth, Kieswetter, Butler, Trego and Philander will fail to win the County Championship for Somerset this year. I really can't.

Jones was being talked about as a promising fast bowler after he took a hatful of wickets on the first day of the season a couple of years ago. A bit quiet since then though. Wonder if he can kick on now.

Yeah he had a bit of tough run last year with Injuries, he's always had the pace but he's lacked control which is why he isn't often used in the One Dayers or T20's. Massive potential.

I think I put the kiss of death on them, hopefully Scotty and Tulip can stick around.

More on Phillander bowling no balls, I was sat near enough in line with the crease and for a whole over his foot was cleanly over the line without the umpire calling then next 2 or 3 balls of the next over 1 of which included his 2nd wicket. No joke it was near enough a good foot over some of them we were laughing how far it was.

Hopefully the test umpires catch on quicker

Opening post updated with the close of play scores.

Plenty of runs and wickets around, and nice to see some young players (Jones, Maynard, Redfern, Godleman) to the fore.

Honours even at Trent Bridge and Taunton I think, with Surrey slightly ahead at The Oval. Derby, Essex, Leics and Kent on top in the Div 2 games.

It seemed at Taunton if Denly went it would have been all over for Middlesex in that innings as they would have crumpled to a low score. So he batted really well.

Denly was one I always thought had some potential. Hopefully moving away from Kent, and playing some Division 1 cricket will give him a new lease of life. His England chances may have gone, but he can still be a really, really good county player.

There is a massive chance for someone to be England's next Test opener as Strauss is likely to be going sooner rather than later. If someone like Denly can put up good numbers this summer and next it would put them in a great position.
