The Rome draw is out!

Some thoughts on the main contenders and some outsiders:

• Djokovic: will he bounce back after the frustration in Madrid? Cannot blame the court for any losses now...
  
• Nadal: still the favorite even after his surprising loss to Verdasco. May need to go all the way to defend his #2 ranking and seeding at Roland Garros
  
• Federer: is he prepared to go deep for a 2nd masters in a row, so shortly before Roland Garros?
  
• Murray: no success on the clay courts so far this season, possibly a tricky first match against Nalbandian...
  
• Berdych: very impressive in Madrid so far, does he start to be a threat on clay too or just on the blue stuff?
  
• Del Potro: hasn't lost a clay match so far this year, main challenger to the "big 3". In Novak's quarter this time!
  
• Isner: after his DC win against Federer and tight loss to Nadal at Roland Garros last year, regarded as a dangerous player on clay. Disappointed in Madrid though.
  
• Raonic: lost a tight 2nd round match to Federer in Madrid, now may face Rafa in the 2nd round! Very unlucky in the draws. Can he cause an upset this time?
  
• Nalbandian: played well in Indian Wells (almost beat Rafa), but not convincing on the clay courts so far. May face Murray in the 2nd round.

Well worth Federer putting everything into winning Madrid and waving Djokovic through to the Rome final.

Raonic was tough, but I don't think that's the issue.

He's thinking French, Wimbleon, Olympics and USO. All else is optional.

Like I say, after Raonic Madrid has been a relative breeze for him and unless the final is a long grueller tomorrow (unlikely) then he'll be in Rome...especially when he can gain lots of points and get nearer Nada/djokovic and #1.

It's a gigantic coincidence but if you say it's not you that's good enough for me.

I checked that thread out and the other hawkeye writes like a drooling moron, surely not the same as the 606v2 version. Weird coincidence about the nickname though!

Yes weird but maybe not as much as one may think. I hardly ever posted on the old 606 but I was a registered user there too. I remember that when I was trying to set up my username, summerblues was already used (I ended up with something like summerblues2). Hawkeye seems a rather more ordinary nickname choice.

And let's not forget Hawkeye is actually a tennis term! It's bound to get chosen by a lot of posters brainstorming new tennis forum names.

Having just checked out that TT article (and the comments added below it ) there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that it's NOT one and the same as "our" hawkeye here on 606v2. He should not be tarred with even the slightest implication that it is.

I've often said that various posters here (and especially on the old 606) can put up pretty childish stuff from time to time, BUT wow ..... a lot of the posts over on that TT link are beyond moronic.

It's almost impossible to imagine folk who 'write' such stuff (and use such language) ever actually watch a tennis match live. In fact I doubt they'd have the intellect necessary to follow through the process of buying a ticket - and then find their own way to the stadium.

Just found out that Raonic is scheduled to play today and may be starting his match before Fed and Berdych are done. Somehow it does not feel right to wait until that match gets going, so here are my predictions:

QF: Delpo, Wawrinka, Ferrer, Almagro

QF: Del Potro Tipsarevic Murray Berdych
SF: Ferrer Federer

Raonic blowing out to Mayer.

Indeed Rome has started and Raonic is the first casualty. Predictions came in very few and very late this time, so therefore I wasn't too strict with the deadline. Feels a little unfair to emancipator who predicted that Raonic would take out Nadal...
Luckily emancipator is winning this competition so convincingly that this won't make a real difference!

Emancipator is not winning the competition - Roger Federer is (2012 stats so far)! Nadal and Djokovic have been relatively "pants" compared to Federer (post AO) and don't get me started with Murray ...
