First topic message reminder :

first series of the season between the two and despite being very very early it could be a big one for the redsox

having been swept in both series so far they really need a good weekend, i am not suggesting they would be out of it if they have a bad weekend, it is way to early for any knee jerk reactions like that, but they wont want to fall too far behind early and the longer the remain winless the more pressure they will be under.

one good thing for the redsox is they are going to be facing the back of the yankees rotation

yankees have had a good start at 4-2 but really should have swept the twins but blew a 4-0 lead in game 2. probably best sign for the yankees is that their big players have made good starts at the plate and russell martin looks like he is the player he was before his injury.

lets hope for a good weekend and for the redsox to remain winless Whistle

I have no interest really in baseball but the last month has been pretty amazing! http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/29/bill-buckner-strikes-again/ A one in 278,000,000 of all those events coming together. Amazing!

Certainly wild - I hope this stops them expanding the playoffs.

At the wire:
East W L PCT GB E# WCGB L10 STRK
NYY 97 65 .599 - - - 5-5 L4
TBY 91 71 .562 6.0 E - 6-4 W5
BOS 90 72 .556 7.0 E 1.0 3-7 L1
TOR 81 81 .500 16.0 E 10.0 4-6 W1
BAL 69 93 .426 28.0 E 22.0 6-4 W1

NYY let it slide at the finish in the Joe Torre tradition. TBY came on strong at the finish so, NYY fan that I am, I'd favor TBY in an all-East ALCS.

The BOS collapse is one they'll talk about in Beantown for generations.

Terry Francona is out.

He led the team that broke the 86-year hex, and the team that won it again.

But Terry Francona said yesterday that he knew it was time for him to leave as Red Sox manager when he couldn’t get through to his players even as the season spiraled to an ignominious close.

Also a factor, he conceded, was the uncertainty he felt over whether team ownership stood behind him.
