The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London

First topic message reminder :

The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.

"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

Yerra that was obvious like, not many have that cash to be flinging around, probably wouldn't cost too muhc more to fly back to it! I would say it's wiser to be scrimping to become Batman, $650 million apparently. Anyone want go get in touch with Roman? I've been covering for a work colleague while she has been on holiday for two weeks, to the extent that I went in for several hours on Saturday to clear stuff up so she didn't come back to a pile of poo. Came in this morning expecting the workload to drastically reduce, only to find out she has been signed off for at least a week with a bad back.

My manager slagging me off by email for something I haven't done when I completed it on Thursday - she just hasn't checked.

Feiced right off.


Anyway, it's Choppers birthday and mini beer fest drink up in Wycombe on Saturday. Waspies at play.

Just had steroid injection in shoulder so I may actually be fully fit for the first time in 2 seasons!! They weren't lying that it will hurt for 2 days though!!

ooh I'm sooo excited I'm going to my first game of the season on the 8th September down the Liberty to see O's v Ulcer. I hope that they pick T. to play, I want make sure he's all right. Well actually, if he does play I'm hoping he won't be all there and make some cracking offloads to his old O's chums and help them score a few tidy tries! I wasn't sure if I'd make that game unless it's on a Saturday...which it is! Happy days...

Great effort to get bronze in the gymnastics by the British men. Lauren went with a friend who had tickets to watch the Rowing today, very jealous, need to ask how we did.

The gymnastics was amazing! Really didn't expect to see that! Just watching hockey now, played a bit when I was at school. Not quite to this level though obviously!

Start a new temp job in the morning covering a sickness absence. No idea how long I'll be there, could be a week, could be a month! Will find out tomorrow.

CJ - I reckon the IOC will follow the IRB 7s format of 16 teams. Unless they are thinking of expanding the competition to 32 and 4/5 days.

There are some countries ib the top 16 ranked countries in the IRB 15s rankings who need to make a commitment and get their skates on if they want to part of that gig.

So North Korea are so far dominating the men's Weightlifting. Two gold medals in their pocket. China must be furious, they were expected to win the two gold medals, and today their lifter didn't even win bronze!

A North Korean broke a world record earlier, didn't he, Rory? I won't pretend to know much about weightlifting, but a world record isn't too shabby I'd have thought!

Yeah he won the overall world record! Unbelievable that the North Koreans are dominating the Weightlifting. I can't wait to see what the next few days have to offer. After about 85kg or so, the Asians aren't as successful and the Europeans take over. Iran are almost certain to take gold in the 105kg+ category though.
