Week 1 betting

Anyone having a flutter this weekend? I'm limiting myself to one bet each week this season, so will probably just be doing a small accumulator each week.

At the moment I am looking at these 4 games to give me odds of 12/1

Patriots (-5.5) over Titans
Seahawks (-2.5) over Cards
Lions (-8.5) over Rams
Buccs (+2.5) over Panthers

So what is this plus and minus thing all about? It baffles me...

Basically its a spread. So when I'm betting on Patriots (-5.5) over the Titans, it means I am betting that they win by 6 points or more, its effectively a handicap. If I was betting on the Titans, it would be (+5.5), so I would be betting that they lose by less than 6 points, or they win the game. If I only bet on this game, the odds are 10/11 for either outcome.

So you're betting that the Bucs will lose by 2.5 points or more?

Nope, I'm betting that the Buccs will lose by less than 3 or win, probably win with such a small spread to cover. Its hard to explain and I'm probably making a rubbish job of it.

The way I understood it was that if its (-2.5), that team starts the game down by 3 points in betting terms. In order for me to win the bet, they would have to win by at least 3 points for me to win my bet.

If its (+2.5), that team starts the game up by 3 points in betting terms, so for me to win the bet, they can lose the game by less than 3 points, or win it

He's betting that the Bucs will either win, or be within two points (inclusive) of Carolina on a Panthers win.

It's basically a case of adding the +2.5 to the Buccs score in the real game and deciding the winner using that total vs Carolina rather than both the real scores
