I do think something dodgy happened with Liston, no one around him had any reason to think he was into drugs, it was a well known fact drink was his vice. Therefore, I think foul play was involved, particularly when his background with the mob is taken into account. I also seriously doubt the two ali fights were legit.

Off topic, but I'm fairly convinced Roswell was/is real as well, go on youtube and search for edgar mitchell rosewell, look at his cnn interviews. (This is a guy who walked on the moon).

Sorry to hear that, but I still find it difficult to believe that Liston would do that to himself, I mean he apparently had quite a stable and happy homelife, he adopted a kid from Sweden I think as well, so he had plenty to live for. I watched a documentary which speculated that he was supposed to throw a fight (against Wepner maybe) and didn't, and so was possibly becoming a bit of a liability for the mob, and more trouble than he was worth, particularly as he was probably the best part of 50 by the late 60's/early 70's.

As for Liston, obviously its one of those things we'll never know, but I prefer to think the mob spiked his drink and then o'd him, rather than the alternative, and objectively, I would say what little circumstantial evidence there is would support that notion.

On a personal note, although he was far before my time, I really like Liston, and think he was misunderstood. He was an exceptional boxer, one of the best HW's of all time IMO, and if he had the support/adulation he thought he would get when he became champ + did not have the mob influence, he would have ruled for years and years.


To keep up with the conspiracy thread, I genuinely in all seriousness believe Rosewell happened, JFK is dodgy too, especially regarding the number of accurate shots fired from a bolt-action rifle in such a short space of time.

The one I don't buy is that 9-11 was an inside job. They might had known a little more about what was likely to happen and chose not to address it (like pearl harbour so I've heard), but I doubt they had an actual hand in it.

Well to be honest I don't like thinking of it either way, but if it was the mob, and given how strong Liston was (and the fact that there were no signs of a struggle or disturbance), the odds would be that someone in the mob got him drunk, then once he was passed out, give him the drugs. So at least in this regard, he may not have suffered, or been aware of what was going on, whereas I would imagine if somone deliberately OD themselves, there would be a lot of anguish and mental pain which would lead them to do it.

Obviously it is awful the mob guys, or whoever were not caught. Terrible either way.

Think maybe we don't like to think of heroes or huge figures being "Human"......and having sad little weaknesses like the rest of us!!

I'm sure Liston had a list of faults longer than my.... and he was definately no shrinking violet. But in this particular situation I personally just can't join the dots to make it a suicide (intentional or otherwise).

It does make a change to have a serious, cordial conversation on this board.

Yes I do, especially when you look at both their records before and after the fight. Even Liston's fall and stumbling about after looked like a bad act. He wasn't really dazed or doing a chicken dance, it was all a put on. Ali was never a 1 punch KO artist either before or after, and in his later years (i.e. post exile) he often sat down on his punches more, and even then he never knocked anyone out like that. Liston had one of the best chins out there, even the stories of police breaking truncheons over his head, and him not budging back that up, this was a tough, tough guy.

Ali was an exceptional boxer, but he wasn't the hardest hitting.

i'm half way to beleiving khans complaints about the peterson fight and the ibf guy who passed something to the judges, the scores were altered and they never explained why or what he passed to him and gave no real excuses. added to the fact he lost 2 points for pushing and peterson was never picked up on drug use.

Scores were not altered. Just corrected. But something went amiss. Khan docked 2 points for pushing and nothing for Peterson for drugging. Perhaps Peterson has something over the IBF. The fight should have been a NC with the belt made vacant.

especially since the rematch was days away from happening too, only when khans team got wind of it did the fight get called off. im sure by that time there was more than one failed test.

With Liston, I don't thik he could have reigned for years and years, 17 months after destroying Patterson he ran into Cassius Clay and I don't think any version of himself could have beaten him.

I also believe that Liston threw the second fight with Ali, and was told to throw the Wepner fight, he was supposedly in circles with the mob and I think that they took him out.

His wife, Housekeeper never knew that he took drugs. Liston apparently had a genuine phobia of needles, supposedly he would never go to the doctors when he was coming down with a cold, he wouldn't get a shot for it. According to Johnny Tacco (Liston's trainer) the needle marks on his arm were there from being in the hospital a few weeks prior, from the IV drip.

I actually think his drink was spiked and the mob killed him.

burns vs cook was a fix, they closed the round betting before the fight due to multiple suspicious stakes

Quite well known one but Eubank v Benn II was the biggest fix. King negotiated rights on the winner and loser. Didn't think about the draw.....

I was 100% convinenced that margo's wraps were illegal for Cotto, until the rematch. The rematch left me 99% certain, Cotto, just couldn't stand in front of him in the rematch either. It only leaves me with an elemnet of doubt, where there was none before.

I think the moon landing was filmed by Stanley Kubrick, the last year, 69, with a failed pre-run in 68. Too convenient that the moon landing happened right on time.

It never happened jim. I have contacted a few of my sources who have brought to my attention new evidence that it was infact staged in Arizona.

Ali vs Liston is a good candidate for a thrown fight. I don't know the details but Liston being killed by the mob wouldn't be beyond reality.

My fathers best pal worked for special branch back then. One of his first assignments was to 'look after' Earl Ray when they detained him at heathrow. He always said it was a massive cover-up with the FBI etc involved.
