Vettel Excluded From Qualifying, How Could Red Bull be so Stupid?

They saw it happen to Hamilton earlier in the season so why risk it?

I could understand it if Seb was fighting with Lewis for the title and by fueling light may have put him on pole. But he's fighting Alsonso for the title and the Red Bull package has been better than Ferrari's all weekend.

I wouldn't call it stupidity, so much as a calculated risk.

If you'd been paying more attention, you'd know Red Bull and Vettel's preferred strategy is to qualify on pole, use the first couple of laps to open up a gap so they can control the race.

You may have noticed that when Vettel qualifies down the grid, he struggles to make much progress, because the Red Bull just doesn't work as well when following other cars.

So its not a matter of who they're racing, its about getting in position to get the best out of the car.

At this stage of the season Seb doesn't need to get the best out of the car, he just needed to stay ahead of Alonso.
