how do you determine the value of a horse?

I've often thought that most trainers would rather win a Cheltenham Gold Cup over a Grand National and that most owners rather win a Grand National over a Gold Cup.......hope that makes sense.

So which would you prefer to win........ a Gold Cup or a Grand National?......tho' obviously both would be nice
