Your fav boxing manerisms?
When all the trash talk is over and the glitz and glamour of the lead up to a fight expires the ring will seperate the truth from the lies (hype)
My fav boxing manerism has to be the obvious respect 2 fighters have for each other when the bell for the first round has rung.
How many times have you seen 2 fighters who before hand talk about how they will do this and that to their opponents but seem to be very coy about landing the first punch. Moderate fight fans ignorently boo this ritual but real fans understand whats going on.
Whats yours?

I used to like when Tyson would crack his neck to the side mid fight. It looked cool when i was a kid.

The best thing he used to do was look like he was pushing the knuckle part of his glove back with the opposite hand. As if was saying "right, I have moved all the padding away from my knuckles, now I am going to smack you in the face".
He really was fearsome back in the day.

My favourite was Audley when he played dead. Or Eubank posing - especially after that reginaldo dos satos knockout - he looked so ridiculous but dignified in his ridiculousness.

Mills Lane used to tap his nose twice and point at the camera...when he was announced as the referee....

I really like it when boxers refer to themselves in the third person. Such an endearing quality.

I love it when a fighter gets tagged and acts like he is not hurt when inside he is crying like a baby.

I really hate Manny banging his gloves together every 30 seconds and its even worse when Khan does it.
I quite like Harold Lederman saying "Jim I gotta tell ya" couple of rounds.

This is quite interesting because Ali used to raise 1 glove to to touch his forehead right before he threw a punch or even when he did'nt. I used to do the same thing it just felt right.

Can't access YouTube at work but there's an awesome video on Youtube called I gotta tell ya something, and it's just Lederman saying that over and over again in different scenarios, I love it when he says it too, heh.

Absolutely ANYTHING that Adam Smith does...he's one cool cat!!!!
My favourite would be two fighters who've given each other an absolute hammering coming out for the last round and not only touching gloves but actually hugging one another before another three minutes of hell is unleashed.

I also like that sporting sentiment. Also like hearing stories of rival boxers being close mates outside ring, especially after they fight. Like Moore v Rhodes after there war, both went out together for a drink with there missus couple of days after the fight like the war they had days earlier never happnened. Class

Re: Your fav boxing manerisms?
The relationship that developed (no, not in that way, what's the matter with you lot?) between Ward and Gatti is something I still find heartwarming.
Ward ended up in Gatti's corner for one of his fights and I think I recall seeing them both laughing and joking at a fight after their thrid contest. l believe Gatti still had his hand in plaster.
In fact, their relationship after their trilogy makes me wish more fighters could have put aside their animosity and bonded better.
I'm thinking in particular of Morales/Barrera and of course Ali/Frazier.
I may put it in an article entitles, "Boxing regrets" which will certainly contain my disappointment at Davide's failed suicide.

I agree, how hard is it to take a handful of pills? Mind you, his desperate need for attention of any kind probably overwhelmed any geniune desire to end it all.

Mentioning him in a thread that he hasn't even posted in seems like a good way to deny him this.

Re: Your fav boxing manerisms?
It's unnecessary to mention suicide on a boxing forum. Anyone who mentions the inferred incident should serve an automatic ban.
Whether a sick joke or not, the threat of suicide and the subsequent banter are in very bad taste. Whichever way you word the "banter" it reeks of Jump, Jump, Jump.
Unacceptable.

Perhaps you find it unacceptable, I don't.
Poor taste? Perhaps, but having endured Davide on the old 606, I was disheartened to see him reappear on this forum. I did make mention of the fact that any change in him would be short lived and I've been proved correct thus far.
Still, you're entitled to your opinions chaps!

Re: Your fav boxing manerisms?
If you want to bully someone, or simply express your displeasure, because they are annoying, then there are other ways of going around it, you don't need to promote their suicide.
I understand some people are irritating and some of us have had to endure it longer than others, but still, there are boundaries.
I've lost my loaf too, but you don't come out the other end with any self-respect.

How is it possible to bully someone you don't know on an Internet forum?

Re: Your fav boxing manerisms?
"LUMBERING JACK, YOU ARE AN IDIOT OF THE HIGHEST ORDER AND I DON'T KNOW ANYONE WHO LIKES YOU"
It generally takes that form.
PS, I was only kidding with the stuff in caps.
Mackem, none of us ased Davide to top himself, he started a thread in which he implied that, due to the lack of respect he'd "earned" on the old 606 forum, he may as well end it all. He then went on to post several times in a manner which ws supposed to suggest he'd taken an overdose and that he was nearing the end.
It was painful to endure and not in a heart rending way. His need for e-gratification was desperate in the extreme and the majority of us we're unmoved by his please and, more importantly, completely unconvinced that he was in the process of an online suicide.
It's an embarrassing chapter in Davide's tenure on the various forums and one which I like to allude to everytime he becomes an irritating presence

I've expressed my view, I'll not labour it further.
On more positive note...
When you said,
"My favourite would be two fighters who've given each other an absolute hammering coming out for the last round and not only touching gloves but actually hugging one another before another three minutes of hell is unleashed"
I felt a bit teary eyed. Undoubtedly, the best of part of boxing.
