Match Of The Day 2 Empty Match Of The Day 2

Post by Shot 21 LCFC Fri 12 Apr 2013, 10:47 am

Im really suprised nobody mentioned this yet. On MOTD2 last Sunday, Branislav Ivanovic scored a goal for Chelsea against Sunderland. After scoring, he celebrated by doing the John Cena "you cant see me". Afterwards Colin Murray was talking to Alan Hansen and Kevin Kilbane and he mentioned it saying something like "I saw him do a John Cena perhaps in celebration of Wrestlemania 29 tonight. Anyone fancy staying up to watch it with me , I have popcorn and we can see if The Rock keeps his belt" - the invitation was kindly declined by both Hansen and Kilbane. Makes me wonder if Murray watches it as he certainly knew what the main event was.

On a side note, perhaps somewhat ironically on a day where everyone was hoping Cena would turn heel, Ivanovic did the "you cant see me" after scoring a goal with his back HEEL. Maybe he too was hinting that he would have liked to see Cena turn...

I believe he is a wrestling fan actually. When he was on Radio 1 a long time ago in his slot with Edith Bowman I remember him dedicating his show to the memory of Eddie Guerrero and chatting to some of the listeners about it, so I think his love of it goes back some time.

To be frank people always liked wrestling, its just that for a short while, it became unfashionable. The Rocks return, and 2011, in general (Summer of Punk) pretty much catapaulted it back to the mainstream.

I wouldn't say it's been catapulted back into the mainstream. It has a slightly higher profile due to The Rock's return possibly, but I wouldn't go any further than that.

I'm a big Hansen (no, not the band..) fan but if he declined an invitation to watch Mania then he's gone down in my estimation.

Hansen providing punditry on Wrestling could be all kinds of awesome!

'His timing is absolutely comical' = Description of a botch

'They have strength, depth and quality' = The Shield

'He was cool, calm and collected' = Someone climbing the MITD ladder

'They are having a complete nightmare at the back' = Describing a brawl backstage

On the subject of football pundits doing wrestling, Imagine Phil Thompson commentating on Wrestlemania. He would go absolutely crazy when big things happened. Probably wouldnt even realise he was marking out!
