Carl Froch - Too late to catch up with Calzaghe ???
First topic message reminder :
What will a Kessler win mean????????....... 1-1 with a guy an old Calzaghe beat. The lost to Ward was also decisive. Calzaghe never lost.
I regard Calzaghe as an alltime great....Anyone who reigns for ten years beating good fighters deserves that accolade.
I'm struggling to find a road map which can lead to Froch gaining the same status!!...........Expect him to beat the Dane comfortably......
An unexpected victory over Ward would be a great win but enough to catch up with Joe..........Not for me.....
Cleverly unproven.....Hoppo ancient (and Joe has been there).............
Too late the hero.............reckon it is!!

Suprise to see you mention the length of his reign Truss- didn't think you cared about longevity.
I think that it would take something special like a win over Ward for most people to think that Carl had caught up with Joe, but that said I can sympathise with those who don't think there's much in it. Personally, I think the Joe's superior talent is the major difference rather than the quality of their records, where Joe's longevity, unbeateness, and being "the man" (even if it did take RJJ vacate the division to make it possible) are offset by the quality of Carl's opposition, his willingness to travel and lack of "filler" fights against second tier opponents.

His longevity was outstanding ...Ten years........Louis is great because of it..........
Floyd isn't because he's the only fighter in history to be measured on... who isn't on his record instead of who he has!!

Calazghe's longevity? He didn't become champion until beating Lacy.

That's not strictly true. When has Ward fought an unbeaten, unrelenting, immensely busy, extremely fast and unbelievably tough fighter who was in his prime?
