Young Tom Curran must be very highly thought of indeed although I don't see him playing. I would have Lewis, Curran and De Bruyn as the three to miss out, I want to see what Jewell can do (although I am very excited about Curran).

Interesting squad - could be a bit light on the batting. If the Brain doesnt play that would probably mean Ansari at No 6.

I'll be surprised if Brain misses out. I suspect the ones carrying the drinks will be Linley, Curran and Jewell.

I hope I'm wrong about Jewell and he gets an opportunity. He could just edge Lewis out.

As Carrot says, Curran is clearly highly regarded at 18 to even get a squad place.

Guildford - Jewell has been doing OK for the seconds I think, got 64 the other day. He is a better bowler than the Brain of course but would probably get more runs too.

jimbo - This is our first 40 over game and your guys 3rd which should play to your advantage, I imagine it will be high scoring and a lot will depend on the top order of both sides. If Roy, Davies, Smith get going we'll do well and likewise for Carberry, Vince etc. for you guys

Carrot OK

Our weak link is our bowling, Wood, Briggs and Dawson are good one day bowlers but after that we are struggling. Our strength is our top 6 batsmen. Should be a good game that's for sure OK

Carrot - no disagreement with you on Jewell. As I said, I hope he plays. He deserves the opportunity. I'm just not sure that Adams will agree with us. He might do but I believe it'll be a close call.

It does seem that Adams doesn't have total confidence in Jewell. He didn't select him for either of the pre-season friendlies (even though one was 12 a side and the other 13 a side). All very odd considering that Jewell was given a one year contract at the end of last season.

Yes indeed - could well be another who 'got away' and goes on to do well elsewhere without having a chance here.

Batty got his 200th List A wicket earlier when he got rid of Adams but is being overshadowed by Zafar Ansari who has 3-27 at present. Hants 159/6 going into the last 8 overs which I definitely would have taken at the start.

Although Ansari collected 4 wickets, praise as well to Batty for a really tidy spell of 1-25 from his 8 overs.

Game very much on at the halfway point. Surrey clearly need a good start to ther innings ...

Just catching up. Pleased to see Hants score is beatable if we bat well. Looks like excellent bowling from Ansari and Batty.

Jimbo - the jury is out on whether Ansari is primarily a batsman or bowler. He does open for Cambs MCCU (mind you he is the captain Wink ). He also opened for us last year in the CC - tho quite a lot of people seemed to think that was asking a bit much at this stage in his development. More likely he may turn into a decent no 7 and a decent second spinner. Currently his first class batting average is struggling to exceed 20 - so he has a way to go.

At the moment he seems most suited to limited overs where he can hit a few boundaries in the lower order, field brilliantly and often take a few wickets. Seems to have a strong temperament for bowling in limited overs.

Hi Jimbo - without wishing to push our luck, think you are right. Cracking start by Smith and Davies, 87 - 0 off 10.

I get the impression that Hants batted fairly well but the loss of wickets to Ansari stopped you from ever really pulling too far ahead ....

Jimbo - in one day games Ansari is a geniune all rounder who can bowl his full compliment of overs (usually quite economically) and offers either big hitting or stabilising/steady batting at number 7. He still ha a long way to go but is an integral part of our 1 day setup.

159/0 atm!

Smile Wow and wow again!!

Surrey romp home by 9 wickets with almost 9 overs to spare.

An undefeated ton for Davies and 70 odd for Smith.

Very, very encouraging.

Jimbo - Ansari also has a good cricket brain. Well thought of at the Oval.

JimBobGooner - where are you? How do I claim my prize for the starting eleven?

Jimbob - sounds most enjoyable - much better than painting the barracks Rolling Eyes .

Was there are a good crowd - judging by the sound effects on the radio commentary it sounded like a good turnout.

It could indeed be light on batting if, as in the next match (against Durham) we are thinly stretched on front line batsmen and then don't actually pick all those in the squad... Doh
