How to get bigger calves?

Ive been a sports person all my (admittedly young) life. As a result I have developed a pretty decent (if I say so myself) physique. However I have one pretty obvious flaw, I have really small calves!! Now this wouldnt be so bad, normally, but I have 63 cm thighs, and very wide shoulders, which gives my body a distinctly "drumstick" vibe. Ive never actually done much isolation work on my calves, but Ive played a lot of basketball, boxing and tennis, so its obviously a genetic issue.

However I do believe that to a large degree, you can cheat genetics, so while I know I wont get Manny Pacquiao-esque cannonball calves, I am pretty sure there must be something I can do to grow to get somewhere.

Mate you should rejoice..if calves are you problem then be happy it's a bodypart no one will ever see......

I've never done any isolation work for calves....In fact in 20 years of training I've never done any calf raises.....

Gone heavy on squats and that's done the trick.........I have big forearms and have never done anything with them either.......

Stick to compounds and you'll find you calves grow......that's my advice.

how about some skipping? or weighted skipping if there is such a thing

Woudnt weighted skipping do a number on the back?

wouldnt think so. skipping isnt very high impact, and assuming correct posture i can't imagine ther'd be a problem if you used a 5 kilo jacket or something.

run but dont let your heels touch the ground.

I'll give weighted skipping a go then. The issue with calves is that they are so strong if you didn't get the good gene, growing them is a labour of love

Cycling is fantastic too...

Get yourself on a spinning bike, turn the resistance up and work in 20 second bursts with 1 minute recovery. Great for fitness and really gets the legs pumping in 20 minutes if you don't have to time for a proper ride.

I have a tube less mountain bike, its a real labour to get uphill with it, think it could help?

Speaking from personal experience yes. Since I've started cycling I've noticed a big change in my legs. They are more well shaped, although I do a lot of biking. Unless you can commit to some big rides on the road I would stick to the static bike if possible.

I think if you arent doing what lumber has suggested the static bike is pretty much useless. on low resistance it does absolute Frak all.

Old Lumber has turned into a fitness beast rather than the old muscleman we all knew and loved..

My guess is this chick of his isn't getting satisfied.......

Re-iterate If calves is the bodypart you're mostly worryied about..you must be doing something right..

I would also like bigger arms, but they are 15.5 inches, so its not urgent, I need these cannon calves. Got photo shoots coming up in the spring (September)..

Dont judge me I need a new car, and a months worth of these gigs is the difference between a Toyota Corolla and Mercedes A-class!

15.5 inch arm cut..........Is better than a 17 inch arm that isn't.........

Its not 15.5 rock-hard arms, but definitely defined!
