Solanki now gone!
"A poor shot" - Dave Callaghan, Radio Leeds, sharing commentary duties with Churchy.
I like Cally's commentary. Generally respectful and understanding towards the players but prepared to call it as he sees it.
Pietersen now batting. An appeal for caught behind off Sidebottom just turned down.
284 to avoid the follow on seems some way off unless Pietersen puts in a "Woodbridge Road 2012" performance.

KP and de Bruyn at the crease, and not many on the board. They are 80-4. Not going well for Surrey.

Re: surrey vs yorkshire county championship
The atrocious weather for the ICC Champion's trophy has done nothing to better my mood, but I am glad to see Kevin Pietersen among the runs on his comeback match after a 3 month injury layoff. He's batting on 60 at the moment, hopefully he'll be able to go on to get a big one, build his confidence and form up for the Ashes, and help his county side out at a crucial moment, when they are struggling for consistency and facing the prospects of relegation.

KP was building a decent partnership with de Bruyn, but now the latter is gone, leaving his side at 173-5.

Re: surrey vs yorkshire county championship
Not only does Pietersen often get big runs on the few occasions he plays for Surrey but he gets them quickly. He's now on to 99 off 105 balls.
From Cricinfo stats, he seems to be taking a liking to Rashid who has gone for 64 off 10 overs. He absolutely blitzed Lancs' Kerrigan last year at Woodbridge Road ....

Re: surrey vs yorkshire county championship
Bizarre really.
Currently 205 behind with 5 wickets left.
If Pietersen stays in and Davies and then Wilson can keep him company for a while, we could overtake the Tykes' score.
However, if Pietersen falls soon, we could be following on ....

A hundred on first class return for Kevin Pietersen. The only good bit of cricket news on a horrible rainy day.

Hi JimBob,
That's rather funny - if you're not Patterson!
When he was batting, his toe was hit by a ball from Trem and subsequently found to be broken. He won't be bowling again in this match.

Msp - you appear to be overlooking Surrey getting a batting point and now being close to 2!

Re: surrey vs yorkshire county championship
Are you now allowed to sub players in if there's an injury? As I see Leaning's had a ball...
Or has Ballance been subbed out because he's in the t20 squad?

Hi Chriss - the answer to your question is no.
Leaning is allowed to bowl as he's on a sub for Ballance who is now with the England t20 squad.
I think it's Pyrah who is on as a sub for the injured Patterson. Pyrah isn't permitted to bowl.
The Yorkies think it's unfair - and they have something of a point - that (1) Pietersen doesn't join up with the England t20 squad until after this CC match and (2) Bairstow is today with England for the Champions Trophy Final although he's not playing!
Never used to be this complicated!!

334-7.
16 more for 4 batting points. Perhaps pushing our luck, 66 for 5.
For all the question marks over his character, Pietersen can bat a bit.

I think we should declare at 350 (if we're not bowled out before!) See if the Yorkies want to set us a target tomorrow afternoon!

Our only problem now is the KP factor in Yorkshire setting us a target!
Unless, of course, our bowlers tear in to them and we knock them over for 150!

Great call, Goochie. That's just happened!thegooch7 wrote:I think we should declare at 350 (if we're not bowled out before!) See if the Yorkies want to set us a target tomorrow afternoon!
It had crossed my mind but I thought we would try to blitz on to 400 and a fifth bowling point before declaring then if not getting bowled out before.
Bold move and one I applaud. The points for a win are so much more than for a draw so sacrificing a potential batting point is neither here nor there. The Yorkies should be up for setting us a run chase (assuming we don't get them all out cheaply - unlikely I know!) as they should really want the win and a potential loss to us is of no great concern to them given respective positions in the table.
Msp - stick around, this just could be fasscinating ....

Goochie - agree but hope the Yorkies will gamble on the "KP factor" being a risk worth taking as they should want the win as much as us.thegooch7 wrote:Our only problem now is the KP factor in Yorkshire setting us a target!

Private Note to the Corporal: we must discuss upgrading Goochie's "606 summer only" contract.
