Psychological benefits for Wales? Empty Psychological benefits for Wales?

Not trying to spoil the unity of the lions, but after so many close calls against Australia, can the Welsh element of the Lions improve because of this tour?

8 Welsh started out of 15 with 2 on the bench. With so many recent defeats it was probably driving some Welsh players and coaches to madness. Wales have playes Australia a ridiculous amount of times in recent years with only wins in 2005/2008 and a draw in 2006.

If the Lions win the series I really think it will give all home nations a boost but especially Wales due to the amount of players and coaching staff it's provided to the tour.

Many of the young players have had first hand experience at choking and being part of a winning lions side would give them a mental edge that they would never have had before.

England and Wales have dominated the past two six nations and I see it to be exactly the same way next year. The youngs brothers, Parling and Corbisiero have been excellent recently and there will be many more coming good next year.

If the Lions win the series, add that to the previous two six nations championships and Wales could be very competitive in 2015. I expect something special from England and for them to click at the right time.

I sincerely believe it will be Australia that fail to make it out of the worls cup group.

Wales I think.
England won't blow it at home.  While Australia are often in great shape at the World Cup.
Oddly enough Wales are due a bad World Cup next time round! Sad

Wales either over achieve hugely at World Cups or under achieve hugely.  We have never had an average World Cup.

In 1987 we were expected to lose to Ireland in the pool stages and we beat them.  We were given no chance against England in the quarters but blew them off the park.  We lost to New Zealand, but beat Australia in the 3/4 play off, who started as tournament favorites.

In 1991, we got smashed by Australia, lost to Samoa in a shock loss and just about scrapped past Argentina,  Though at the time it was felt we should of beaten Samoa and Argentina easily.
Knocked out in pool stages.

1995, easily beaten by New Zealand in the pool stages and easily beaten by Ireland, knocked out in the pool stages.

1999, again beaten by Samoa in the pool stages, and knocked out by Australia in the pool stages.

2003,  Nothing expected of Wales after being white washed in the 6 Nations. We were worried about making the quarters.  Italy started as slight favorites but Wales beat them meaning we made the quarters.  We gave New Zealand a big scare, before giving England a big scare as well!

2007, struggled badly against Canada before scoring a few late on to give the game a lop sided score line.  Canada actually went 3 tries to nil up, before Wales got it together!  Then Wales scored 5 tries in 12 minutes late in the second half to secure the game.  We then lost to Fiji which knocked us out of the tournament at the pool stages.

2011, We went into this tournament bricking it because we had South Africa, Fiji and Samoa in our pool, but we pushed South Africa hard.  Crushed Fiji, and got through Samoa.  Then upset Ireland in the quarters.
