Best competition and the competition that got me into cricket back in 2005!

Defending Champions Hampshire got a win tonight in the opening game against Surrey.

Micheal Carberry getting MOTM with a nice well batted and controlled innings. Hiting 60. Again showing and asking the question why hasn't he been pulled up. Personally i would open with him and Lumb in the England t20 squad.

Sussex beat Middlesex thanks to a 81 from Luke Wright and 3-30 from Mike Yardy

Gloucestershire beat Worcestershire thanks to an unbeaten 108 from Micheal Klinger and 3-23 from James Fuller

Durham beat Yorkshire thanks to a 59 from Phil Mustard and 2-13 from Ryan Pringle

Surrey beat Kent thanks to an unbeaten 95 from Steven Davies and 3-22 from Jade Dernbach.

Dernbach is probably international standard at t20 but not 50 over cricket. Luke Wright proving why he is so key to county and country. Phil Mustard name always appears to come up.

Middlesex are hopeful that around 20,000 people will be in attendance for the Essex match tonight. 15,000 tickets have been pre-sold and on a sunny evening a healthy contingent of members and walk-ups are also expected.

Middlesex v Hampshire at Richmond today. Looking forward to it even if the train journey across London means I'll miss the end of the Test!

If Middx can win this one you'd think we have one foot in the quarters. With Essex and Kent in disarray and Sussex with only one win on the board there is a good chance that the current top three will advance.

Here is my report - http://deepextracover.com/index/hampshire-openers-put-middlesex-to-the-sword/

I actually thought 160 was a very decent score. It didn't look easy to hit through the line and Hampshire, as ever, gave very little away with the ball (though Tanvir let them down a bit and the fielding wasn't at its best). Malan continues to be imperious in one-day cricket and shocking in four-day cricket and Voges batted well again.

With the ball we weren't great though credit must go to the Hants openers for the way that they targeted the short boundaries from the word go. It could be argued that we are missing TRJ (injured), Harris (injured) and Murtagh (rested), and Gus would certainly have wanted to play at least one of them in each game, but the fact is that none of the three are particularly fantastic T20 bowlers and probably wouldn't have made a tremendous difference. Whichever way you spin it I still don't think our bowling attack is particularly well suited to the shorter formats, something which might ultimately let us down.

Going forward it looks like 3 from 4 will reach the quarters. Despite being hammered twice by Middx, Essex still stand a chance of chasing the London clubs down so it looks like the London derby at Lord's next Thursday could be critical.

Having now seen all six South Group sides in the flesh Hampshire look by some distance the best all-round outfit. Surrey are the masters of defending scores so it might be that batting first against them is the way to go if we win the toss. Sussex still look superb on paper, particularly with the bat, and will be a big threat to Middx when we meet on Tuesday.

Carberry and Vince really do get us off to good starts. Both different types of players IMO, Carberry is power and Vince has the classy shots. I still can't believe Carbs doesn't get into England's one day team. England's loss, Hampshire's gain Very Happy

No wonder Chris Adams was sacked from Surrey. The guy sounds clueless on sky. Just said that 150 on this pitch was defendable. The outfield is like glass and the boundary is like 10 metres

Another win for Middlesex. Top of the group but now a painful nine days off whilst all of our rivals slog it out before the London derby. Not an entirely convincing performance but more than good enough. Yet again Malan and Denly playing superbly in pink despite being pretty poor in white all year...

Jos Buttler only getting to face 8 balls of an innings when 4 wickets fell is criminal

It was indeed Corporal

They started off slowly, Chopra clogged it up.

Maddy/Evans get them to a position where they were clear favs, then Thomas/Arafat put on a masterclass of death bowling in the last 4 overs

Quarter finals for a 5th year in a row Very Happy

Does say however that the group is too easy for us in some ways, yes this year we didn't top it, but to always qualify 3 years in a row....

Wouldn't mind T20's being random groups each year.
