DEBATE-AMANIA!

As we all know, wrestling fans don't agree on anything and are willing to defend their opinion to the death even when people aren't willing to listen...this got me thinking.

This got me thinking...I'm looking for 16 opinionated people to take part in a knockout tournament to crown the first ever Debate-amania Champion! The basic idea is that each week you will be given an opinion and in 500 words of less you must explain why that opinion is correct against someone who has been given the opposite opinion...once all the opinions are in then the other competitors vote for who they think gave the most compelling defence...the winner going through to the next round and one step closer to immortality...er...or bragging rights (just as good right). To keep everything fair I have decided that Debate-amania will be 100% anonymous, meaning that people vote for what is being said and not who it is being said by because after a while this could turn in to one big popularity contest which is not what this is about.

As with every contest there are some boring rules and deadlines I would expect you to follow to keep everything running smoothly.

Deadlines (These may change)

Opinions will be messaged to you on Sunday evening (usually after 7:30pm - due to work commitments)
All opinions must be PM'd to me by midnight of Wednesday of that week, giving you three days to write your statement
Opinions will be posted on Thursday and voting will open
The deadline for votes to be in is Sunday by noon and results will be posted a few hours later and new topics will be handed out at random

Rules

Each statement has a word limit*, for every 100 words over this limit a deduction of 1 point will be made to your vote score...meaning if you ended up winning 9-7 but your statement was over 800 words you would end up losing 7-6.
If you miss the deadline to PM me your show then your opponent is given an automatic win (this is to stop making the contest run for too long).
If you fail to vote you will be deducted 3 points.
As this contest is anonymous, if you reveal which statement is yours before voting closes then you will be deducted 5 points (harsh I know)
In the case of a draw, my vote will be final in deciding the winner.

*for the round of 16 and quarter finals the word limit will be 500 words

*the semi finals will have a word limit of 1000 words

and the final will consist of three questions, 1000 words each, ending with one winner in the

three stages of hell Debate-amania main event!

THE OPINION OF DEATH!

For the first three rounds there will be the dreaded opinion of death, an opinion so far out there that it would take a genius to win their round...if you are given this question and manage to win your round then you go in to the next round with the choice of which opinion you defend next meaning you could put yourself up against the next unlucky person to draw the OOD! There will be no opinion of death in the final but if you manage to win the OOD in the semi final...you could go in to the final with the opinion of your choice.

Like I said, this is just an idea at the moment...I don't have every opinion in mind and the rules/deadlines may change if people suggest better ideas...the OOD could be scrapped or maybe even in the first two rounds there could be two of them...anyway, if you're interested then post in here and I'll put your name on the list...I'm looking for 16 people to join as I think that's a good number to kick of the first ever Debate-amania championship with and as always it's first come first serve.

I'm also open to suggestions for opinions that should be debated or OOD's though I have a couple in mind already.

I will leave sign up open for two weeks, if the 16 people aren't found by then I'll give up on the idea...if we get more than 16 people I may consider holding a bigger tournament.

The more the merrier House! I'll add you to the list...I'm also looking for opinions to debate...I have a load written down but they're all mainly based around WWE/WWF and the bigger stars of wrestling so if you have any suggestions then let me know Smile

Also, if anyone see's that the deadlines are too short or the word limit is a bit harsh then suggest changes...I'm thinking about having a 500 word limit for the round of 16 and the quarter finals, a 1000 word limit for the semi's and then for the final:

3 opinions debated, 1000 words each...one winner.

Added Raf. I look forward to seeing some factless debates...I'm actually trying to get a group of statements/opinions that can be won on opinion alone...facts may help but I like the idea of an opinion winning this.

2 years ago I would have said yes but I literally cannot be arsed to engage in a debate about pro-wrestling right now. Enthusiasm is hard to come by.

I wii put myself forward as we'll.

One thing I would like to suggest though is that you don't have a debate such as TNA is better than WWE because no matter how good a case for tna over wwe may be, the are some people on here that will vote wwe without even reading or considering a debaters case.

I would also make the debates anonymous ( to avoid favouritism or in my case bad will!)

haha I actually have a list of ideas for debates and the top one is WWE vs TNA so I'll take that one off because you're right...brand loyalty will sometimes be the defining factor, if you have any ideas for debates then let me know in a message.

The debates will be anonymous for that exact reason...everything will go through me and if people reveal their topic or which one they posted before the votes close then they get 5 points deducted...I'm being super strict with all of this haha.

just checked and we have 10 people already...if we can get 6 more and some good suggestions the first round could be up by next Monday Smile

Obviously I'll mix it up randomly so you won't know what you'll be getting...the first opinion won't mean it's number one.

I'm going to wait until tomorrow after work, by then if there are numbers left over I'll give them out randomly and hand out all of the opinions that you'll be debating. The deadline for the first round will be this.

Opinions handed out: ASAP (hopefully tomorrow or Friday)
Deadline to be message to me: Midnight, Wednesday 17th (seven days to write it)
Vote deadline: Midnight, Friday 19th
Vote revealed: Saturday 20th (I'll aim for midday)

After that though we'll go to the normal deadlines of Sunday to Sunday.

As it's just opinion based I don't mind - I'd argue red was blue if I had to so as long as im allowed to make wild assumptions about the topic and not rely on any facts at all we'll be fine

My knowledge on ECW is really limited so i'd like to stay clear of that. I'd give any of the others a crack though.

What do you mean about if we don't vote we get deducted 3 points? I'm a bit unclear on the voting side of things.

Ok so when I post all of the debates you will have two/three days to read them and vote on each debate which opinion you thought was the best argued.

So lets say you didn't vote and your debate was tied 8 to 8, not voting would take 3 votes off you leaving it 8 to 5 in your opponents favour, meaning that by not voting you went from drawing to being out.

Is that clearer? Basically if you don't vote or if you reveal which opinion you are debating you will told off...do both and you can practically kiss your chances goodbye haha
