EPS - Where they learnt their trade.
As usual, once the squad is selected I look at where the players developed. A couple of RL players, so their first RU clubs get 1/2pt each.
Bath 1/2 (Eastmond)
Bristol 1 (Attwood)
Gloucester 1 (Burns)
Harlequins 3.33 (Marler, Robshaw, Brown) + a bit of Care
Leeds 0.67 (Care)
Leicester 6 (Cole, Croft, YoungsT, YoungsB, Tuilagi, Twelvetrees)
London Irish 2 (Corbisiero, Yarde)
Natal 1 (Barritt)
Newcastle 4 (Parling, Wilson, Dickson, Flood)
Northampton 2 (Hartley*, Lawes, Ashton)
Sale 1 (Foden)
Saracens 3 (MakoV, Farrell, Goode)
Scarlets 1 (Morgan)
Wasps 3 (Launchbury, Billy V, Wade)
Worcester 2 1/2 (Hartley, Kvesic, Wood)
While Barritt arrived in England at 22, Hartley came at 16. I have split him between Worcester, where he started and made a decent number of appearances for the first team, and Saints who he joined at 19.

Wouldn't Attwood be counted as a Bristol player?

I thought he joined Glaws as a teenager, but he was already 22. I had not realised he was 26 already.

Nope. He never appeared for a senior team, andwas what, 17 when he left the Bath academy? By that measure Launchbury should be down as Quins.

Re: EPS - Where they learnt their trade.
So if Barrett learnt his trade in Natal, does that make him the sole player in the EPS that qualified on residency rules (or does he have parentage)?

Is Burns twice as good as any other player or is there a name missing from the Gloucester list?

Both Barritt's parents are English I think. Tuilagi and the Vunipolas are residency. Barritt is probably the 'most foreign' in that he was an adult when he came here. All the other played all their adult rugby in England or we born and raised in England (Morgan)

When I removed Attwood, I forgot to reduce the Gloucester count

Surely New Panteg should be the ones getting a point for Mako V, not Saracens?

Yeah right.
Bristol deserve some credit for him as he was there from 18-20 (And at Millfield School from 16-18).

Can we get some credit for making Care into the 9 he is today though? If Bath get 1/2 for Eastmond aury we can get that!

Thought so, but I thought it would have been Filton College.

LT would you fancy doing the same for Saxons as well? As they're more a representation of future talent being watched by the Eng management at club level.

But he joined Quins at 19 - same age Hartley went to Saints, and Saints have been given a 0.5 for that.
I DEMAND AN EXTRA 0.2 POINTS.

I think teams will wait and see how those Championship players get in in the top flight before coming calling...
I know Wuss have supplied Internationals to other clubs, but have any Wuss players ever got an England call up while at Worcester?

Exeter are notable for their absence on that list. However, that will change in years to come looking at some of their youngsters coming through the ranks.

Re: EPS - Where they learnt their trade.
Wasn't Kvesic selected for the EPS and Eng once he had signed for Bath? And I don't think Mullan has an Eng cap, he's only played Baabaa's games if he's played any (could be wrong) plus he's not with Wuss any more.

Re: EPS - Where they learnt their trade.
He's at Glaws now yappy, he was on the radar while at Worcester though I guess you could argue he was called up once he said he was off. I think Mullan is a 1 cap wonder at the moment, so that must have come while at Wuss.

Mullen got at least one cap in the 6 nations a few years ago.

Pretty sure Mullan got a random odd cap during the Six Nations a few years ago in place of Payne.yappysnap wrote:Wasn't Kvesic selected for the EPS and Eng once he had signed for Bath? Too right they are dominating the age grades at the moment. ONly problem is...will they suffer as Leicester etc have when England take half their squad...BigTrevsbigmac wrote:Exeter are notable for their absence on that list. Re: EPS - Where they learnt their trade.
Age grade representation is not indicative of international success. The tale of two 12s is a fine example. Matt Cornwall England under 20s captain in a good side has never been capped or held down a spot in an AP side. Billy Twelvetrees broke his leg at 17 missed out on under 18 and under 20 selection but is now a regular in the squad and a touring Lion.
Now some of the Chiefs young guns are real quality so will more than likely get caps but doesn't necessarily mean they'll lose loads in every international window.

Re: EPS - Where they learnt their trade.
Exe youngsters have had a big influence in this year's U20's, and, to a lesser extent, last year's, but there's only 2 on the current U18 tour and there'll probably be only 1, maybe 2, in the upcoming U20 squad.GeordieFalcon wrote:Too right they are dominating the age grades at the moment. it's really just been a particularly good year group coming out of Devon and Cornwall (and staying in the SW instead of going upcountry to Bath, Bris or Glaws as they used to).

Re: EPS - Where they learnt their trade.
Yeah and with LI fading there's plenty of young talent for everyone to rob from down south. Should give the Falcons a couple of seasons to stake their claim as a big AP club again.
Another poor season and Sale could find a good number of their young talent leaving. In Imolek, Thomas, Brady etc there's a few who could be deemed worth stealing by bigger clubs.
Seems the way of the AP, show weakness and the vultures will descend on your young talent.
