Sonic Or Mario?

Lets face it, for many people (especially around my age - 25) these were the 2 ultimate games growing up. If you had a Nintendo of any sort then its a safe bet you had a Mario game. And if you owned a Mega Drive or any sort of Sega console then its a strong possibility you had a Sonic game.

so I just want to know which one you preferred? The blue hedgehog with Tails as his sidekick, or the Italian plumber with Luigi as his sidekick?

For me Mario just edges it due to Mario Kart. Loved that game!!

I remember not long ago, you had Mario V Sonic At The Olympics or something like that. I always though a brilliant game ides would be Sonic v Mario Kart. How awesome would that be being able to pick any from both worlds and racing against each other!!

Mario for me. Playing Mario Kart was probably the most fun i had playing a 2 player game.
Also Mario Land and the Six Gold Coins on the Gameboy ruled. First game i ever completed and was so proud of myself.

Mario beats sonic within an inch of his life! I grew up gorging on Mario platformers and still enjoy them very games to this day.

Granted pretty much every Mario 2D side scroller made since the NES days is pretty much a re-hash of a previous version but my god are they still fun! I never enjoyed Sonic half as much to be honest.

I did enjoy the Sega All Stars racing games though. But even they fall a bit short of the Mario Kart racers. I'd love to see a complete remaster of the first Mario Kart (SNES) with online play included. Spent many hours battling my mates as a teenager!

Sonic. For me has some of the greatest games of all time.

Mario all day every day.
Every Mario game had depth and imagination.
Sonic? Press right and close your eyes, 70% chance you'll complete the level  

I've always hated Sega, and dammit I always will.

Mario I think was more enjoyable and the later games have remained good unlike sonic but sonic was a lot more challenging. I disagree about the level design especially if you're comparing the first sonic and the first mario. Though the level design on the mario games did vastly improve.

Anyone used to leave Sonic standing there cuz you found it funny when he started getting inpatient and looking at his watch? Me too.

Also do you remenmber the Knuckles game? You could also slot the Sonic game on the top of it and either play as Sonic in Knuckles world or vice versa, cant quite remember which.

I found Sonic to be so repetitive, and mega boring. Mario all the way!

100% Mario. Even considering getting the Wii-U just so I can get the new Mario game. Super Mario Wii is vastly underrated as a game. My favourite has to be Super Mario Bros 3 on the SNES though. Played that game only a few weeks ago on an online emulator.

Loved Sonic as a kid. I used to get 'Sonic The Comic' and the T.V. shows were pretty good. However I think the Mario games may have been better, and more varied. Also as I got older the whole Sonic is cool because he has an attitude really started to grate, and the games seemed to really lack any quality at all post Sonic 3D.

Mario - Super Mario World is the best 2D game ever made in my opinion. Still fantastic to play today, a work of genius.
