Culture Cup round 2: Best song never to reach UK top 5
The Culture Cup round 2.
First topic message reminder :
OK, after the roaring success of round one, here is the roundup.
Round 1 threw up a few surprises, not least seanmichaels claiming first place and Galted close behind in second. Not the section of the league that these two usually frequent. It was clearly incorrect because To Kill a Mockingbird is obviously superior to Lord of the Rings but there is nowt as queer as folk and the good people of 606v2 have spoken. They have also spoken enough to garner Niall Quinn's autobiography some votes and some points, despite the p*ss taking throughout.
Adam has made his usual solid start, taking third place which is one below where he will inevitably end up. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Union finished with a vote and some points. Remarkable.
Table after round 1;
seanmichaels (Lord of the Rings): 12
Galted (To Kill a Mockingbird): 10
Adam (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory): 8
Hero (Fantastic Mr Fox): 7
Dolphin Ziggler (Hitchikers Guide to the galaxy): 6
onlytreblewinners (Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde): 5
Azzy (Moby Dick): 5
compelling & rich (Storm of Swords): 4
The Boss (Niall Quinn's autobiography): 4
Jbeadlesbigrighthand (The Old Man and the Sea): 4
The Womble (A Kestral For A Knave): 3
Superflyweight (Trainspotting): 3
Julius (The Big Sleep): 2
Rowley (The Godfather): 2
Union (The Dogs of War): 2
TopHat (Rage): 2
ChequeredJersey (The Kindly Ones): 0
bhb (The Ragged Trousered Philantropists): 0
Question 3: What is the best film released since the turn of the century? Culture isn't limited to old sh*t so what is the best film released since the 1st January 2000. This should eliminate some people choosing old films that they haven't actually seen but come near the top of best film lists. It can be re-releases if you want, animated films, porn, whatever you think deserves a mention. Fo' shizzle.
Please PM me your answers and pick a couple of choices. As usual, if you don't get your first pick I will let you know.
Please see the poll for round 2. Please vote for your top 2 and remember, It is open for the whole forum to vote.
Thanks.

I didn't realise that there were so many of these films, there's also Sharktopus, Piranhaconda, Mega Python vs Gatoroid, Dinocroc vs Supergator, the list goes on and on.
Also, I clearly picked the wrong Bowie song

You do remind me somewhat of a grumpy teenager Azzy, a bit Kevin and Perry for those old enough to remember them. You need to learn to take a bit of joy in life. Every day above ground is a good day as they say.

Mockbusters like Sharknado are great due to the names. "Snakes on a Train" is my personal favourite. I also like AVH: Alien vs Hunter and The Da Vinci Treasure.

You're right on two of three counts. Have seen the invention of lying, it is rubbish but Jennifer Garner is in it and is lovely.

I like Blurred Lines, enjoyed the Invention of Lying, but alas I am no fan of Eragon.
I long ago learned to accept popular culture. I'd rather 100,000 were happy watching TOWIE than 100,000 people bemused and bored listening to Stewart Lee judge the world whilst forgetting hes a boring Kumquat

Nothing wrong with pop culture, just some pop culture is irredeemable bad. Blurred Lines is by far the worst "song" I have ever heard. It is the first one where I cannot identify a feature that I can understand to be attractive or even tolerable to any human with a functioning cochlear

I really like Robin Thicke and Pharrell, they ooze a sense of cool. Not a touch on Julian Casablancas (quite definitely the coolest man alive) but the beat is catchy, the tone of voice is easy to listen to and its darn funky. Even my Dad likes it.
There isnt a lot of music I do or dont care for nowadays, I prefer the sound of my desk fans. Hipsters and music snobs ruined music for me

Never seen the Tulisa tape but apparently it was much like watching her seal an envelope (the old school ones). She doesn't do it for me anyway. Cheryl Cole's backside on the otherhand...... Apparently it has inspired Rowley.

I've now cast my song votes. However, looking at the outcome of the 'Greatest books' votes, I wonder whether it's too early to lodge a formal protest? I nominated a Pulitzer prize winning novella that contributed to its author winning a nobel prize, only to end up tied with Niall Quinn's autobiography. 606v2 users hang your heads in shame.

This sort of thing isn't uncommon in the brief history of 606v2 'cups'. If you have the same confidence in your choices as I have, you'll quickly learn to dismiss it as an irrelevance, before doing the same thing in the next roundjbeadlesbigrighthand wrote:I've now cast my song votes.
