If you want it, you gonna have to earn it!

Remembering Ken Norton yesterday and had time to watch his classic fight with Holmes. Norton defending the WBC title for the first time even tho he never won it in the ring and Holmes in his prime fighting for the championship for the first time. Norton was the fav but stylistically Holmes was a far better boxer.

Holmes owned Norton for the first 8 rounds, sticking his jab out to perfection and picking Norton off. Norton tried to close the gap using the old crossed arm technique employed by greats like Moore, Frazier and Forman but never really got to Holmes until after the 8th round. After that Norton bravely brought himself back into the fight making it a close split decision win for Holmes after a great final round where either men could have been dropped. Great energy from the fans that night. If you look closely you can spot a young Sly Stallone in the arena.

Norton fought like a real champion that night and it was not an easy night for the young Holmes. Credit to Kenny RIP.

Carman won that fight but took a serious beating to get there.

Duran in taking Leonard's welterweight title. Ferocious, one the all time best boxing performances.

Willard had to weather a beating of Jack Johnson before taking advantage of his age and knocking him out late.
