SA tour of Pak(UAE)

UAE, though foreign for Pak, but it is no less then a home feeling. It was here they uprooted the World's best team, with a white wash. Now again they are on a fight with the recent best test team of the world, SA. PAK under captain Misbah and experienced Yunis, looks bit clear on their stance that they will give a strong fight.
We will get an interesting battle here.

The loss was very disappointing though.

We must prepare better for these two test series, you can't go nto a two test series underdone like that, it means once you've lost the first test you can't win the series

You've gotta wonder, had ABDV not been stumped in bizarre circumstances, given his current form.

We would've won the first Test.

A small error in judgement gave Pakistan the chance to get ahead in the game.

pak with honors even with series 1-1 for they have done the unexpected especially after losing to zimbabwe

tough place to win v pakistan in dubai.. 1-1 isn't to bad.. especially with this end to it.

SA go with saving grace and Pak with honors.
SA has not lost series easily even in tougher  Ind and SL if i recall correctly.
and pak would be the one to have more readily accepted this scoreline at the start

you dont know what you are getting with pakistan though- they are an enigma. Not the best thing to base your own real form on, sometimes its all about them..

SA's win will be the only one in the UAE since australia won two back in 2002.

since then its been 12 games 7 wins and 4 draws for Pakistan(with only this certain loss)

AB goes early on day 3. Mohammad Irfan who looked Pakistan's best bowler gets him caught behind for 164, ending a 338 run 5th wicket partnership. Graeme Smith has moved along to 233, and JP Duminy has joined him.

And Smith is out.

And now Smith goes, Ajmal with the wicket. Terrific innings from Smith, he's gone for 234, and South Africa 478-6.

Faf du Plessis hasn't been in the best of forms in recent times. Now he can take his time, there is no real pressure, ideal time to get back to some form.

I think this pitch is a tad flat, we must try and bat out most of the day, hopefully the pitch can deteriorate a lot.

Looking at how the wickets are tumbling this morning it seems it isn't all that easy to get in.

Excellent performance from SA so far - have improved and adapted massively after the first game. Shame there are only a pathetic 2 matches in this series, this is the most improved team of the last couple of years vs the number one team. 2 matches is not a Test series

agree, don't know why we can't play at least three tests, but the same is happening in December, apparently India only wants to play 2 tests in SA.

Why??

Its only england that seem to play enough tests!

How can we make the other teams play more test match cricket and yet you lot as the no.1 test team can not!

I don't know Mystir, from what I have seen is the Asian countries when playing us love 2 test series when we travel to them, we used to get three tests when they come to us, now India only wants two tests.

It is pathetic. I believe the ICC should regulate that no test series should be less than three.

Didn't know that India vs SA was only 2 Tests, that is even worse! Test cricket will die out in everywhere but England and Oz at this rate.

I read the other day that the ECB has had to seriously dig their heels into still playing 7 test matches each summer.

Yes we could say its all about the sky contract(ECB guaranteeing them 7 games a summer)

But the reality is that attitude is helping the format..

Other Boards need to also start digging their heels in, especially SA as the best team out there.

The top 8 test nations should not play less than three tests.

SA, England and OZ should play 4 tests minimum against one another.

Well if the BCCI have so much power we need to start getting a bit closer (OZ, ENG and SA) and start working as a unit a bit more.

At this rate VTR is right- test cricket will only be about the ashes!

If test cricket disappears I will stop watching cricket.

The limited overs stuff aren't my favourite.

After Ajmal helped himself to a rather meaningless 6 wicket hail.

Proteas where finally dismissed for 517.

Dale Steyn promptly takes a wicket in the first over.

No one comes close to the great man

South Africa bowled out for 517, a lead of only 418!. And Pakistan are already in serious trouble as Steyn and Philander struck in their respective first overs in the mini session to take out the openers before lunch to reduce Pakistan to 2-2.

SA have the no 1 and 2 batters and the no 1 and 2 bowlers at the moment!! 

looks like pakistan is trying to make an entry into the top-10 chart......of alltime biggest margin inning losses

Here is the top 20 list and half of these are vs. BD or Zim...so getting on the list vs. Pak will be very creditable

Sily Pakistanis...rolling out the rest of the South African order like that actually means they have more time to bat.

Er...8 wickets left, and 8 sessions left. 560 minimum needed to make a game of it.

Think South Africa might just edge this one in truth.

Pakistan 56-3. Younis and Misbah at the crease. After those couple of early wickets, Azhar Ali managed to hang on for some time with Younis, but JP Duminy got him LBW first ball with a sharply turning delivery.

75-4 ......looks like they will cross 100 in this inning

Those actions are consistent with the sanction for unlawfully changing the condition of the ball, according to law 42.1.
 
The ICC's tweeted about the episode: "Umpires replace ball and fine South Africa five runs for ball tampering on third day in the Dubai Test"
 
The incident took place at the start of the 31st over of Pakistan's innings, two overs after tea, when umpires Ian Gould and Rod Tucker called South African captain Graeme Smith for a chat. The fourth umpire, Shozab Raza, brought a box of balls onto the field and a new one was selected for use.
 
No individual player has been charged yet but television images showed one of the South African players rubbing the ball allegedly on the zipper of his trouser pocket. The umpires will decide whether to lay a charge at the close of play whether to lay a charge and that will determine if and when a hearing will take place.

But the way rules are being made only for the batsman these days, I can understand if the bowlers try something on these lines as they too have to survive.......

Msp - I must be honest, this is really unremarkable. Faf was stupid, and should probably get fined, but he didn't use a "foreign" object to shine the ball. If ICC want players to stop using zips, then ban clothes made with zips.

My only real concern is when he has done it.

But on a serious note, the ICC is very good at getting sanctimonious, about minor issues. Given the documented breakdown in relations between S.A. and India, and an impending tour between the two, I can see bans being handed out.

Of course the fact is: the rule has always been five runs! I'm sure the ICC will hand bans after the fact.

I remain quite ambivalent to this. realistically - what exactly did he do wrong? Is the Zip line more harmful than the boundary rope? Is it worse than a fuzzy jersey? I mean he didn't exactly, start scratching the ball with the zipper.

I just think he deserves a ban to a) prevent more callous attempts
b) because that was incredibly idiotic
