Positives: The triple threat was good even though the commentators hadn't a clue that is was elimination rules. BNB winning the IC title was great. Shield vs Evolution was brilliant and happy Shield won.

Negatives: Cena vs Wyatt was an embarrassment. I feel sorry for Wyatt, I don't care what any WWE apologist or Cena fanboy has to say, he does NOT put over young talents. How many times was he on the verge of winning what was effectively a 3 on 1 handicap match only to be screwed over? In the end it took a singing child to win Wyatt the match. I have never seen somebody beat Cena yet look so incredibly weak. Well done WWE.

The Meh: Rusev, who cares about him? He will beat a load of jobbers, be fed to Cena, spend a few years in midcard, form a comedy tag team with Santino and eventually be future endeavored. Kane vs Bryan. Seemed out of place being last on the card although it was a title match. Kane just isn't a credible opponent for Bryan, hope now he can move on to somebody we believe can beat him. The next PPV is in Chicago, so you know who people are going to be hoping shows up.

For me the PPV was worth it for the Shield v Evolution match. Given a lengthy match Shield just never disappoint.

Thought the shield/Evolution match was good, it really picked up once Reigns hit the ring. I'm really impressed at how well Ambrose has transitioned to a face, and some of Rollins moves are insane. It says a lot for the Shield that this match probably isn't in their top five matches.

I thought the main event was a good brawl. The extreme rules stipulations hides Kane shortcomings, and both men told a good story.

Barrett winning the IC title is both positive and negative. It's positive as Barrett is on the rise, but it shows that Evolution apart, WWE are unable to create heat for heels. Barrett has a catchphrase which is over with the fans, and doesn't give the audience a reason to boo him. To a lesser extent, Cesaro has the same problem, though this is slightly mitigated with his association with Heyman.

I agree with CenaNuff about the booking of the Cena/Wyatt match. When the person most over out of the match is a little kid, you know the booking was poor. I don't agree that Cena doesn't put young talent over, seeing as Bryan pinned him clean at Summerslam.

The Divas title match was ok, creative are doing a good job in making Paige look strong. Hopefully AJ returns soon, so we can have a modern day Trish/Lita style rivalry.

Extreme Rules Spoilers Empty Re: Extreme Rules Spoilers

Post by Crimey Mon May 05, 2014 1:59 pm

It was a decent smaller pay per view, I was really surprised that Shield/Evolution didn't go on the last. Interesting to see Batista taking the pin once again.

The Wyatt/Cena match was dreadful, it was confusing watching it trying to see what they where they were going, still don't know what will happen afterwards, I am just hoping the feud is over. While Wyatt won, I am not sure he got anything from the match. From a kayfabe perspective, it would seem odd as to why Wyatt was even bothered about leaving the cage, surely he would be happy to have Cena locked up with him to brutalise?

The Kane/Bryan match was surprisingly good, I thought after The Shield/Evolution match it might feel a little flat, but they mixed it up well to give a big gap between them and the match was so different, one of the first matches I can remember at Extreme Rules to actually feel Extreme, some nice spots and Bryan wins. Only real downside was the hint that the feud is going to continue. I am not sure there is anybody who really wants to see a long program between the two.

The Cesaro, RVD, Swagger match was really good, some really good spots and the Frog Splash and then Neutraliser to the bin looked brutal. The right man won.

The Barrett/Big E match was okay, good ending, but not sure Barrett winning the title is actually that good. Big E went off the rails after winning it and it can often be a curse rather than a blessing. He has also basically gone nowhere in the 4 years he has been in WWE.

Altogether a decent pay per view, the crowd ruined it a bit as they were really crap and coming off of the back of Wrestlemania, which was really good, think the pay per view felt a bit flat.

I thought it was a great ppv tbh and whilst there were some things i didn't enjoy, 15 pounds well spent.

The opening match was decent, WWE always seem to get the correct opening match and the opening match always seems to deliver. Happy Cesaro won. Was confused when RVD eliminated Swagger, the commentators mucked that up.

Barrett got a huge pop, really big fan of this guy. But i hope he doesn't get stuck with the IC title for a while.

Rusev squash. As expected.

The Shield vs Evolution match, was there 3rd favorite of mine. The best is still that TLC match against Ryback, Kane and Bryan, the other being against the Wyatt family back at Elimination Chamber. Some fantastic spots, including Rollins jumping of the arena area. Reigns was class, that super man punch gets better and better. Great match, and im interested to see where this goes.

Wyatt vs Cena, the match wasn't as bad as people are making out. At the time, i liked the ending and found it a bit freaky, but thinking back on it, it still doesn't make Wyatt look that strong, think the feud will continue.

Kane vs Bryan, whilst i want this feud to be done and dusted now, the ending suggests its continuing. The match was brilliant though.

You could make a Best Of The Shield DVD right now and it'd fly off the shelves. They are all that and then some.

Bray Wyatt was booked so weak last night, other than the start of the match he was on his ass for most of it! Just another great character ruined by the Cena shovel.

I still can't believe they had their first loss on Smackdown. That could've been huge!

Anyway...

The PPV was good. There wasn't a bad match, each one did it's job.

The Shield vs Evolution was brilliant as expected. All out carnage! There's contrasting reports over whether Batista is taking time off or not to promote his film and rumours are that he was due to face Bryan for the title at Payback and the angle with Kane sitting back up at the end off the PPV last night was done just in case Batista takes the break.

Cesaro/RVD/Swagger: thought the match was good once it went to 1v1 though it was laughable that the commentators didn't know the match formula. Good win for Cesaro using the Extreme Rules stipulation without it becoming a weapon/spotfest.

Barrett v Big E: So the IC title may get a feud and storyline attached to it now?... It hasn't been great with Big E because honestly who / how would you book him? I would have liked for them to have gone for Big E v heel Mark Henry / heel Sheamus but on neither count did they so it is best if someone else and someone over can pick it up. Even if it is a bit of a character killer and certainly hasn't helped Barrett in the past.

Shield/Evolution: Great match filled with action. A little more formulaic compared to the Shield matches as heels. Storyline was obvious with Reigns taking no damage in the match, he is being pushed as the star to face off against HHH down the line. The Rollins spot was amazing and reminiscent of some of this early WWE ones - I am guessing that he could fill a Jeff Hardy sized hole in the roster. One negative for me with Reigns was his bizarre antics before delivering the spear at the end, I like the superman punch gun action and the head throwback and bellow but the near seizure like shacking was strange... hopefully someone will have a word with him and get him to tone it back as a) it didn't look cool b) it was a bit too much like Edge's mannerisms

Wyatt/Cena: I personally liked the story that they tried to tell, using their numerical advantage to ensure that Cena couldn't win is something that intelligent heels should do, surely? I am always much more of a fan of the build up to a Wyatt match than the actual match - lots of psychology and storytelling but the action in the ring doesn't seem to flow particularly naturally and did feel like several creative ideas stitched together. My guess is that this will ensure that the feud continues - I am not unhappy with this as there is intrigue left though I would like to see Cena have a PPV match with Luke Harper next. It would be a good match and allow the story more time to fill out before potentially ending at MitB. N.B. I was also surprised there was no filler match between Shield and Wyatts... felt like it was needed?

Bryan/Kane: As an overall it felt OK though I wasn't as high on this as other feuds. Presented as the 3rd biggest match but closed the event so I felt a bit drained come the end. The table spot was good though not on a par with Edge/Foley. I would have personally had it as Falls Count Anywhere and done a Running Knee through the table for the immediate pin. Would have then told the story of Bryan literally going to hell to defeat Kane. Guess this one will continue though if it does feels like Bryan making Kane tap out would be the best way to close this off and allow DB to progress.

Do they ever release PPV buys for the UK? Be interesting to see what the B PPV's get compared to Mania/Rumble/Summerslam.

The thing that irks me the most these days is that the WWE seemingly refuse to let Cena put a heel over clean. I think TLC was the last time it happened. SuperCena is getting as ridiculous as Hogan.

On the whole I thought it was a pretty good PPV. The Shield definatly had MotN. Again. The two strongest candidates for MotY are Shield matches (vs Evolution and vs The Wyatts). They are just that good, and I love that they all seem to have defined roles now. Rollins is the high flying dare devil, Ambrose is the demented beserker and Reigns is the powerhouse. The Shield will go down as one of the all time great factions.

I dont know what happened but the crowd seemed to lose interest in the Bryan match. I thought it was a decent first defence, and the table spot was cool. The offense Kane got in made him look a genuine threat.

Got RAW set to record. Looking forward to seeing where they go.

Oh. And the Party Bus!

Extreme rules got 120k in 2010 although it was on a Sky Sports. WM 27 got 70,000. Over the limit which was on Box Office got 6k.

Which is not far from being a year ago.

The reason why fans boo Cena and say he sucks is because he's booked so atrociously that it ruins matches. Cena is in this guaranteed position that if he is booked to lose clean, he can and it won't affect his status as a Main Eventer. They don't seem the understand this so come up with screwy finishes as if to protect him. He doesn't need protecting, no matter how many times he loses the stupid kids and women will still cheer him, if you make him human and actually beatable you won't get all the blokes in the crowd booing and saying he sucks. The predictability of his matches is what ruins things

It is interesting, however, what Edge and Jericho said about Cena on his podcast a while back. When they were feuding with the Nexus, Edge and Jericho both said that barrett should go over and Cena disagreed. Then there was the Super Cena come back where he eliminated members of the Nexus and won and it sucked. He came to the back and said to Edge and Jericho that he got it wrong. Is he doing that now?

Cenas the face of WWE, and in kayfabe one of the greats. How does an up and coming heel beating him clean make any sense?

Cena, and especially his character, is getting past the point of silliness now. His character was stale 6 years ago, yet they continue to push it in your face. I dont mind him winning during a fued, but its almost pointless putting an up and comer against him if nothing comes from it.

Its difficult to buy into Wyatt being a threat to Cena if he cant win clean. He went over Bryan at the Rumble clean and didnt do Bryan any harm.

Stone Cold and The Rock werent protected anywhere near as much as Cena is. Its ludicrous now.

I didnt think Bray should win at Mania, I didnt think Bray should win clean at ER. In fact, I don't think Bray is doing good enough heel work to deserve to get everything thrown to him.

Don't agree with that, particularly in Austin's case. Post WM14 he didn't do a clean job in three years, and was particularly choosy about who he would work with.

He spent at least a year of those 3 injured and lost clean as a whistle at SummerSlam 99. He also lost to Mankind in 98 at some point clean I think. He was protected as any top star should but not to the ridiculous levels Cena has been.

Anyhow, as has been said a million times you don't have to go over to get over. However, it's very difficult to get over against someone who rarely looks vulnerable. Austin often looked vulnerable, especially against Kane, Undertaker and later HHH.
