Was hoping that would be the case. Can't find anything on his web-site (which doesn't seem to be updated) or the Reno tournament site about player commitments - guess we'll just have to wait.

This weeks Canadian Open winner will qualify for Bridgestone, No one else can qualify.

Kuchar can get back to #4 with a win
Furyk can get to #6
Dustin and GMAC can get to #13

Ryder Cup Impacts:

Erik Compton is the only player in the field that can play himself into the Top 9 for the US Team.

Luke (currently 8th) can move past Doobie and Bjorn into #6 in the World Points rankings with a win.

However, Luke is vulnerable of falling out of the Top Nine if he does not play well this week

GMac (currently 11th) can move ahead of Luke in the World Point rankings (and just behing behind Doobie) with a win. A 3rd place for GMAC could nudge Luke if Luke Whiffs this week.

Very intrigued to read Rob Bolton's column confirming that the Top 125 in money earned, whilst not eligible for the FedEx Play-Offs, nevertheless secure a Tour card for '14/'15. Had thought last year saw the end of that loophole.
That benefits Mike Weir who is almost assured of Top 125 on the money-list, plus offers hope to half a dozen less well-known others.

Vijay Singh's weeks in the top 200 could be coming to an abrupt ending.

Ranked 195th going into Canada, he probably needs to get some points this week if he wants to stay in the top 200.

he has been in top 200 for over 25 years. Since Feb 1989.

Luke highly vulnerable of falling out of the Euro Top 9.

Luke is trunkslamming and GMAC is playing well. GMAC needs a 3rd place to displace Luke from the Euro Top 9.

For a variety of reasons, it would be healthy all around if McDool passed Donald in the RC points list - Donald seems to have been playing so poorly since Wentworth and the trauma with his child being born when he was in absentia.
Can't imagine St.Luke will fare much better at Firestone or Valhalla by which time McGinley may avert his gaze from the likes of Donald & Westwood, and start to look at the guys in form.
Hopefully LD and LW will turn it round, but neither seems much in love with golf right now.

I wouldn't be too bothered if LW and LD didn't make it.
They've got outstanding RC records, and it would be a shame to sully them by being selected when not in form.
Poults is probably nailed on though, despite his form dip this year.

THe American team isn't looking too inspired or intimidating and there are plenty of other Europeans who could line up against them without any sense of foreboding or trepidation.

Has Poulter had a form dip? He usually has long patches of being nothing and then grabs a lot of OWGR points in meaningless end of year jamborees. It's not like he's spent very much of his long career in the top 10.

Poulter was 12th at the beginning of the year, now he's 28th. That should indicate a form dip.

Lots of truth in that Digs, every time Poulter goes thru a dry spell like this current drought one wonders whether he's "peaked", destined perhaps to rue opportunities not taken earlier in his career.
Doubtless he'll play at Gleneagles but if he loses his Ryder Cup magic Europe could be in trouble.

Westwood plays his record 48th WGC this coming week at the Bridgestone, and then the PGA; think he and Sergio lead the way among the current crop for most Majors played without winning one. Hope that record is made to be broken with both winning soon!

True Kwini. Lots of chances for lease players to step up and win majors in the past 5 years. Poultry hasn't managed to do that.

Small price (for us in North America anyway) to pay for winning the RC by a large margin.
(Now we have Montgomerie's blather monopolising Senior golf coverage, so I know what you mean! Like McEnroe in that the older he gets the better he was, porkies dispensed shamelessly to a public that doesn't know the difference.)

Hopefully we won't hear of McGinley after th RC.

Furyk becauses #6 should he win, as long as Kuchar finishes 5th or worse.

Delaet gets into Top 30 and Stanley goes to about #108th

GMAC goes to #13 if he wins

Kuchar will barely pass Justin Rose to #4 if he wins.

And the SuperRealist Tiger in the top 10 watch. Furyk needs solo 6th or better to pass Tiger. (and Tiger will be #10)

Several scenarios for SuperRealist's Summer wish to come true.  Tiger out of the top 10.    anyone down to #18 Rickie Fowler can knock Tiger out of the top 10.  But basically anyone from Kaymer on down needs to finish 3rd or better.

With 76 points and a 9 Million Dollar purse there is a lot of Potential Shakeup in both RC Teams the next two weeks.


In the Euro List

#15 Gonzo can crash the Top 4 with a win



In the Euro Points list:

#21 Mikko Ilonen can crash the top Nine with a win


On the US Side, players all the way down to #25 Kevin Streelman can claim a spot in the top 9.

Molinari (currently T5) needs a solo third or better to have any chance of getting into the Top 9.

A 4 way T5th gets him 14.82 points, barely ahead of #12 Poulter, assuming Poulter does not earn any points.

Molinari's trump (hate that word now!) card may be that the final qualifying tournament for European qualification is the Italian Open, in Turin, where Franny is a past Champion.
Regardless, hope he qualifies.

We're now looking at the US Top Ten and imagine Tom Watson will see that as a get-out-of-jail card, but he still needs some top performances from his top players.

Interesting to note that WGC payouts are not as top heavy as normal PGATournaments.  Less money for Top 20 players (as a percentage of purse) means more money for the bottom feeders

For instance, PGATour winners normally get 18% of the total purse.
This week, the winner is getting 17%.
A two way second normally gets 8.8% of the purse (per player), it gets 8.4% this week

A three way T13 at Doral paid $113,000 where it would get $174,000 if it had a normal PGATour payout.

That means someone like Ryan Moore who is T10 going is not making as big of an impact on Zach and Dufner who are ~T25 and ~T50 something in the Ryder Cup standings as you might expect.

That said, Ryan and Keegan are still making a move, although not as big as one would expect

Keegan and Ryan is looking to get right on the bubble.

I wonder how Dufner's bulging disc will affect his fitness and his schedule. Can't imagine he'd be a candidate to play 36 holes a day even if he qualifies, which at the moment looks tenuous to say the least.

Can't imagine Bradley not getting there somehow, and even Watson's mate Snedeker has had a decent summer. Plus, happy to see signs of competitive life from Hunner.

McDowell making a strong statement of intent this morning (-6 after 12 holes) after never having fared well in past trips to Firestone.
Westwood going in the other direction, Donaldson & Molinari treading water.

Conceivable that this week's results could push Garcia and/or Rose in to the Top 4 World Points qualifying table.

GMAC is having a wonderful round and trending to ~12 OWGR points which will be enough to pass Luke and his Son

Looks the Euros have 4 players in great form (Rory, Sergio, Justin and GMAC).  And 1 player is so-so form (Stenson) and the rest of the team is playing badly.

Kaymer can't shake the Pinehurst Hangover.

Assuming GMAC makes the team on merit, who would you pick right now?

Kaymer played horrible in Round 1, but pretty good from then on.
And Dubuisson's not doing badly on his first visit whilst Bjorn is quietly consolidating in T13.

For me:
Rose, McIlroy, Dubuisson, Stenson
Rose, Garcia, Bjorn, McDowell
plus Donald or Donaldson.
Then I'd choose Poulter, Donald or Donaldson and Molinari.

Westwood would have to stay home and, sadly, Gallacher too though wouldn't be surprised if he played well at Valhalla.

Gallacher could get a "home" pick though, possibly instead of Donaldson if Jamie didn't make it.

Strong team though, great balance.

Back of the envelope calculations that a T4 is not enough to put Keegan into the top 9 Qualification, but it does put him ahead of Mickelson for the bubble spot.  Ryan Moore would be right behing Mickelson and Tood.

I'd guess 2nd or 3rd depending upon how Rory finishes.

Should Garcia win, he will be #2, as long as Rory does not finish solo third or better.

And Stenson doesn't finish solo 2nd.

There is actually a chance that Rory falls to #5 in the rankings if he finishes outside the top 20.  (which does not look likely).

Stenson, Rose, and Garcia can all pass him.

Looks like Woods tenure in the top 10 is going to continue for at least another week as no one from #11 to #18 is doing anything noteworthy except for Fowler and he has to win.

The PGA is another week.

Barring a win next week, Tiger will not be in the FEDEX playoffs as their are no Captain Picks.  (I don't think he is going to play Wyndham, but Steiny might be in negotiations)

GMAC is going to pass Luke and Jamie in the World Points and Jamie is going to tread water because he is pass Luke.

But there is going to be less than two points separating them going into the PGA.

I think Jamie is going to be notched out of the top 4 in the Euro Rankings. (but it is going to be close)

Wrinkle in all this is the incoming approach of Baby McDool, due in a few weeks and that will potential derail his chase for "Points". Certain Captain's Choice however.

Patrick Reed the big winner in the US List, Keegs squandering a big chance this back nine.

Adam crashing and burning got GMAC and extra 0.5 ranking points.

and Yep, Top Five should have passed Zach and Dufner with that eagle on 17.

Keegs spent a few Ryder Cup points with his finish.  I don't think he is too happy right now.  T4 should put him pretty close with Mickelson at the de facto #10 spot.

Would I be correct in saying that none of the current top 5 has attended a college golf program in the USA? I wonder if that has happened before.
