So its up to Tiger to pick himself, that's hilarious.

GPB that's an interesting theory about Nike pulling the strings, I wonder how much sway they really hold over Woods...

Actually, not sure about that. He certainly looks like he couldn't care less but then, the more I think about it, he looks sour faced every time he plays, in every interview he gives etc etc.

One other thing. How great for other U.S. team players if someone, no matter how good his solo career record is, makes it as a pick when, demonstrably, he's a million miles from playing well enough and he's nowhere near fit enough. I'd be seriously p!ssed if I was on the team as of right and 9C gets a free pass when he's playing shoite and he's obviously nowhere near fit. Can't imagine it could be good for team morale in the slightest.

Go on Tom! Pick him! You know it makes sense.

I'm sure that Tiger's endorsement deals give him some bonuses for making the RC team. Not that he needs the money. But I think the same goes for much of the other players' endorsement deals.

With that being said, in RC you can only use your own clubs,(and maybe gloves and shoes) right? The rest of the gear / outfit is the same?

With half the PGA Tour season being washed away one should think so. But with their captains team all being penioners I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot.  laughing

And someone should tell Stricker he can't bring his hunting rifle as carry-on.

Quote II of the day:

Tom Watson said he received a text from a player -- he would not reveal the name -- that read, "I am playing well, I've got a new driver and I'm going to make you pick me."

 chin

Not Tiger methinks - even though he's in desperate need of a new driver - but who could send such a stupid text?

Shouldn't be hard to narrow it down. Needs to be

1. Male
2. American
3. Currently not qualified and unlikely to qualify
4. A bit of smarmy tw@t
5. Have low self esteem/desperately needy
6. A bit of a fantasist.

I take it back - it's impossible to narrow it down Smile

Anonymous text to Tom Watson:

"Tom, I’m a multiple major winner and one of the biggest name in golf ever. Now I can hardly walk or hit the ball. But I really want to be on your team - just need a few reps."

Reply from Tom: "Ha ha, you prankster Arnie."

Some OWGR Notes:

Both Wyndham and Made in Denmark events are low rated events, Wyndham at 34 Rating and Denmark at 24.  Matsuyama (#18) is the highest ranked player in the Wyndham and he can to #13 if he wins.

Bjorn is the highest ranked player in the Denmark tournament and he can get to #21 should he win.

Day and Mickelson will trade places in the rankings this week (Attrition differences)

====

Prince Dracula on his twitter feed has pointed out the Match Play will probably hurt EuroTour participation because the calendar OWGR bias favored the European Tour in February, but hurts the European Tour in April.

====

Woods has announced that he will not be playing until early December.  His average should be down to ~ 3.35 at that time and based on last years Dec 1, 2013 ranking, that would be about 30th.

Rapid?  Not in my opinion.

500+ players have earned more OWGR points than Tiger in 2014.  He should not even be in the top 25 with his 2014 record.

Shows the stupidity of the rankings.

Tennis rankings for me have the best model . 12 months rolling points. What you can't defend drops off and what you win is added.

Lots of mixed feelings about that and I'm probably in the minority!

I reckon the OWGR's are about right but sure we'd all offer tweaks, in my case with limited field money grabs and some subsidies, especially on the European Tour.
One thing is for sure and that is Woods will have to play well immediately he returns or his rate of fall will accelerate.

inco,
If he falls precipitously he could miss the MatchPlay in May (which he wouldn't much care about) and the Bridgestone in August (which I'm sure he'd regret).
Can't see any other ramifications.

Kwini:  Woods is not qualified for Cadillac either and if he doesn't stop the bleeding, he will be out of the top 50 at the deadline date.

I figure he needs to earn about 15 pts minimum to be in the top 50 at the Cadillac deadline date.

No past champion exemption for the Bridgestone?!

Can you see Woods playing the champions tour when the time comes, body permitting?

No, no champovtour for TW, that's certain.

What about the Majors? Didnt most of them change exemption of past champs to 5 yrs?

Not sure Pedro, The Masters obviously hasn't seeing as it's stuffed with coffin dodgers and has-been's.
Can't say for sure about the others.

Yeah, but I think it applies only for champs after a certain year. That’s why Lyle and the likes are still hacking their way around. I think the Open did something like that to avoid the field being clogged up with seatfillers.

Woods is in all the Majors thru the 2018 Masters - no exemption for the 2018 US Open as of now.

Had missed the Cadillac, thanks GPB, and obviously is not currently exempt for the 2015 HSBC Champions.
No Past Champion exemption in to WGC's.

One wonders what the future holds for 9C. I guess given his stubborn nature he will continue to play, between injuries, for the next ~10 years. Then maybe retire to a cushy corporate number at Nike/course design work etc.

Probably see him in the sunday papers advertising baldness solutions like Graham Gooch.

10 years?? no way Incon, I don't think we'll see much more of him to be absolutely honest. I can't see him settling for mediocrity in the field. If his next comeback isn't at least like his 2013 comeback where he won 5 events and/or he's simply not challenging in the Majors or he has another (new or recurring) injury then I think that will be... Adios

If I were him, it would be my last throw of the dice, I'd get the best physio money could buy and get on a proper physical rehab geared at flexibility & injury prevention (the multi rep Navy Seal type nonsense needs binning), I'd also engage Rotella to sort my head out then biggest of all....swallow my pride and go back to Butch. If all that failed then yeah... Course design.

I thought so too originally Jas, and any normal person would probably retire from their sport, but he's so stubborn that he will probably continue attempting to fix his body no matter how hopeless it becomes. He'd only call time on his career if there was no other option.

Wouldn't fancy playing a Tiger Woods design:
300 yd Par-3's
550 yd Par-4's
700 yd Par-5's
All with 275 yard forced carries. Ooh, and no pot bunkers.

If course design (which is a good guess), he'd probably only do a handful high-end, top notch, hyped courses (in Dubai etc.) to prevent dilluting his name (and ego).

Are these the width of the fairways?

There'd be trees down the middle and fairways either side
