Who is Al Haymon?

Just read an article on the enigma that is Al Haymon:

Doesn't anyone find it bizarre that one man seems to have so much power in the boxing world? Despite the fact he gives no interviews, is rarely at any fights (that's the most disturbing) and the fact he appears to receive a lot of credit from the fighters he advises e.g. "I would like to thank Al Haymon" being a very common theme in most pre & post fight interviews.

In an age when you can find out something about anyone, how can one so powerful remain so elusive? Possibly a testament to his intelligence, but you do have to question whether his involvement in boxing is of a murky nature.

Not sure it's of a murky nature, as you say the fighters are thankful of him so he's doing something right for them, however I have to believe that part of the agreement they have with Haymon is to thank him in every interview. Do you remember Khan after the Collazo fight? He nearly forgot and those idiot brothers kept butting in saying "thank Al, thank Al".

Rubbish contribution but I have to join in when mentioning them annoying brothers.

When Buffer is announcing their fighters name and them giving it all the yeah "yeah, yeah" whilst stood in their face. WTF is all that about?
Honestly what is the point of them being in the ring?

His main career start was in music promotion, where he promoted such acts as M. C. Hammer, New Edition, Whitney Houston and Mary J. Blige, and he branched out to other entertainment areas, such as when he worked with Eddie Murphy.

Interesting article. But not much clamour for lamont Peterson to fight anyone.

Yeah, Haymon just understands the tax curve very well - the less you demand, the more people willing to pay you'll find. He just seems to reek of seedy, which is saying something being in a business with Prime Evil Don King, and Bob "never met a fighter I couldn't undervalue" Arum.

American boxing is in a state, rios and kovalev fought on the hbo card in Vegas in front of 1600 people. They probably made close to a million each. The American system enables boxers with no fan base to get paid millions, promoters don't promote, they deal with networks. The system created al haymon.

Yeah, but what exactly is he doing? It can't just be about the money, He has Floyd, he's probably made near $20 million from his dealings with Floyd. He can't be dealing with five figure pay fighters for fiscal reasons. Or at least not immediate fiscal reasons.
