Being punched by a heavyweight

Its Friday...

As a confirmed coward, and fleet of foot, I have managed to avoid ever being smacked in the face by a big guy, as with my lip, a fair few have been tempted.

It never looked like much fun to be honest but this clip I saw elsewhere helped give me a tangible example of what it might be like, were you to imagine your head as a football....

I feel a career in the movies beckons for Helenius... Or as a voice over guy... Sounds like he gargles with gravel

Having sparred with heavies when i was a youngster and only around super middleweight/light heavy myself at the time i was not that bothered by the head shots, but it felt like being hit by a car when a clean body shot landed.

Despite your comments, I don't think I'm offering Helenius a free shot to the head anytime soon Hogey. 

I am about 155-160 lbs and have done some 'light' sparring with a light heavyweight and after everyhead shot my head was spinning, ,seeing stars, although i wouldn't say it hurt. Don't think I could take one clean one from a heavy without getting sparked.

Having not been punched since I was 21, I can't say I know too much about being hit by a heavyweight.

What I can say is that I want Robert Helenius' voice.

In fact, it has inspired me to create a new way of measuring how cool people's voices are: the Beckham-Helenius scale.

I am a heavyweight but I don't box. I'd imagine it is pretty hurtful to say the least   

I thought it was common knowledge that if any pro heavyweight hit an average man he'd kill him? Even a guy with a 0-20 record it doesn't matter. It's right up there with other facts like swans wings breaking men's spines and stuff.

Always thought Milky had taken plenty of shots...He's usually the headline act at Madison Oyster gardens..

Helenius had a stroke and his vocal chords were paralyzed and he couldn't speak for a while, that's why he now sounds like Christian Bale's version of Batman.

Don't act like you don't remember john, it was you he stroked.

To be fair, when you get stroked by big hairy men on such a regular basis as john, I imagine its hard to remember which one stroked you when.

Yeah, I'm not saying it meant any less to me, just that it was one of many.

Its all relative, what it feels like depends whos doing the punching and how big you are.

My legs completely betrayed me when sparring a heavy thankfully  he was wearing 14 ounce gloves and it was last 10 of the last round. However, I was dropped by a welter during a bout.

I cant imagine what it would be like to be punched by Tyson, Klitschko or foreman but if i was, even after the event, I wouldnt be able to recall it so still couldnt answer the question.

Lets ask Charlie Z? He'll even know how a liberty shot feels against a legit heavyweight.

Depends really - I've been hit in the face by an untrained (few weeks) heavy while messing about before a session and it wasn't that bad.

A few weeks earlier I'd sparred with (jokes incoming I guarantee) a full on heavyweight who'd been boxing for several years and it damn near took my head off my shoulders. When they sit on their punches.....christ.

You've never been hit in the face...You'd run a mile !!....I've never met anybody in any gym as weak willed and as sensitive as you..
