Australian Open Day 10-14 - Djokurray! And others! :P
Well some of you hardcore mob will no doubt be up watching the first round matches and even up first thing if your boarding the Fed Express. I will be utilising the power of Sky+!
So we have Federer, Nadal, Murray, Berdych, Gulbis and Dimitov all in action on the men's side.
On the ladies we have Halep, Sharapova, Bouchard, Ivanovic, Kerber and young gun Bencic.
Should be an action packed day.

Finally here! My favourite event on the calendar
Is the bottom half of the draw normally up first? Hoping for some good competitive matches to start

I think Bencic vs Georges and Dimitrov vs Brown could go all the way.

Tough one for Dimitrov for sure. To be fair, quite a lot of these first round matches aren't exactly easy - Lu, Youzhny, Schwartzman, Roger-Vasselin, Brown, Falla and Coric.
Not sparkling players but you'd count yourself unlucky to play some of them first up, if they're on form.
Any upset specials for you LK? Thanks for putting up the thread too

Well Silver I think Coric has a real chance. Reckon if he nicks the first set Chardy will fold.
A real outsider is Bemelmans against Karlovic.

Hehe H-n, same here. Of course, come SF and F, the time-zone advantage will be with European-based folks. Still, good that our Americas-based contingent at 606v2 has been increasing in size.

Dimi takes the first set, Coric up a break on Chardy, but its awful quiet here.

Dimi is cruising .. Brown throw in an occasional brilliant shot but is making no impression and the second set looks like Dimi's

Dimitrov is cruising. Brown just doesn't seem to have the sustained game plan to break down the Bulgarian. Dimi leads 6-2 6-3 2-2.

And Dimitrov breaks in the third set and that should be that with just over an hour played.

That's an extremely rapid win. Dealt with an unorthodox opponent easily, well done.

Murray leads 6-3 6-4 in what has been a strange performance or should I say patchy. Credit to Bhambri who has shown a good array of shots whilst Murray has been too passive for spells and a bit too many unforced errors but his first serve has functioned well.

Agreed .. he appears to be a lot more relaxed but I cant help feeling that he is not stretching himself..maybe he feels he only needs to play well enough to win and heh that's not such a bad idea as long as he does not let Bhambri back into the match

A good test for Rafa. Oddly, enough a dropped set or two may not be too bad as he needs court time I feel.

I only saw a bit of Andy's match but from that I had the feeling he was very much in control and was playing only as well as he needed to.

Yes CC you are right of course. This match should be a good indicator as to where he is at this time.. both to him and us I feel. He will be nervous in the first set Im sure as you know it takes him a time to settle

Bhambri breaks in third set so Murray needs to refocus here or risk losing a needless set. I like the look of Bhambri's all-round game though.

Still seems to be that consistency problem. One good point played then a bad point. That has to be eradicated. I still have no doubt Andy will win but now looks like it may have to be in four.

Not sure that too is not a bad thing CC .. hopefully will make him focus.. so often complacency can be a big problem when playing a lesser player

A good win for Gasquet for the loss of just five games against Carlos Berloq.

Bhambri holds to lead 5-4 in the third set. Apparently, Rafa and Andy have played a few sets on the practice courts inelbourne in the past week.
